//------------------------------// // The Only Chapter // Story: Sonata's Storm // by taurusbabe1996 //------------------------------// Sonata sighed and rolled over in her bed as rain pelted hard against her window. Usually she had no issue falling asleep when it rained, she honestly liked it. However, it was a whole different story when the rain was accompanied by loud booms of thunder and cracks of lightning. She turned over in her bed and looked over at her bedside clock, which read 12:36am. Maybe I should make some tea, that should help. I'll have to be quiet so I don't wake anyone else up. Sonata slipped out of her bed and put her feet into her favorite pair of fuzzy pink slippers. She smoothed the wrinkles out of her cream-colored nightgown and quietly tip-toed out of her room, heading for the kitchen. She quickly made herself a cup of tea and was walking back to her room when she suddenly stopped and looked over at the door she was passing. Thunder roared outside and something inside Sonata urged her to go open the door, especially when she realized whose door she was standing in front of. She knew she shouldn't go in, but part of her wanted to check on her and make sure she wasn't having trouble sleeping like she was. Letting her curiosity get the best of her, Sonata opened the door and slipped inside the dark room. "Aria?" She said quietly, but the girl was nowhere to be seen. Looking around the room Sonata noticed that the messy bed was empty and that the only light in the room was the moonlight and flashes of lighting coming from the window. Sonata set her cup of tea down on Arias desk and walked to the center of the room. "Aria?" She called out again, but the loud thunder masked any kind of response she may have gotten. Aria had to be in here somewhere, after all she wasn't in the kitchen and the lights in the bathroom were off when Sonata passed by. She looked around the room once more before noticing that the closet door was slightly ajar. Sonata walked over and opened the door. She was shocked to find the purple haired siren curled up in a ball on the floor of her closet, with small grey blanket wrapped tightly around her shoulders and her face pressed into her knees. Aria looked up at Sonata, tears streaming down her face, not sure what to make of the intrusion. Sonata had never seen Aria upset, let alone cry, so she stood frozen. It was almost as if she was waiting for Aria to pop up and tell her that it was all and act, but that didn't happen. BOOM The thunder was loud and rattled the walls. Aria let out a scream and flung herself onto her knees wrapping her arms around Sonata and pressing her face into the bluenettes stomach. Sonata, not ready for the sudden impact, wobbled for a moment but grabbed the door frame and managed not to fall. She looked down at Aria and, even with her eyes closed, she could see how utterly terrified she was and Sonata was shocked to realize what was going on. Aria Blaze was scared of thunderstorms. "Oh Aria" Sonata whispered, running a hand through her friends hair. "You don't need to be scared anymore. I'm right here," She said comfortingly. Aria took a shakey breath and loosened her grip on Sonata so she could finally stand up. "Please don't tell anyone." Aria said in a small voice, gripping Sonatas nightgown tightly in her fists. "Not even Dagi" "I promise I won't. Cross my heart, hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye!" Sonata recited with a small smile. "Now lets get out of here," She turned to walk out of the closet but Aria stayed rooted in her spot. "I can't" Aria muttered. Sonata looked at Aria, whose red, puffy eyes stayed glued to the floors she spoke, her fists trembling as they still gripped the soft cream fabric. The purple siren was usually so composed and serious, always able to hide her emotions and stand tall no matter what, but in the face of a thunderstorm she looked small and emotional, and Sonata didn't quite know how to react to that. "Just close your eyes and I'll lead you to the bed," Aria gave a slight nod, wrapped her arms around Sonata and closed her eyes, allowing herself to be led out of the tiny space. "You're not planning to leave me alone right?" Aria asked timidly, her eyes still shut tight. "I would never dream of it!" Sonata reassured and pulled the two of them into the bed so they were facing away from the window. Sonata leaned back against the headboard and Aria instantly wrapped herself around her close friend, burying her head in the crook of Sonatas neck just in time to hear a roar of thunder come from outside. She gripped Arias nightgown in her fist and the blue haired siren felt hot tears dripping to her shoulder. Sonata was usually the one being comforted, so shes never been good at offering comfort to others. With Aria though, she found that it came easily, almost like she always knew what to do. Sonata leaned her head down and began singing softly into Aria's ear. She nuzzled her head against Arias and sang softly, her fingers running through her friends long purple locks. As she sang the second line of her song, she placed her hand on top of Arias and smiled as she unclenched her fist and let Sonata intertwine their hands. Come stop your crying it will be alright Just take my hand and hold it tight I will protect you from all around you I will be here, don't you cry 'Cause you'll be in my heart Yes, you'll be in my heart From this day on, now and forever more You'll be in my heart No matter what they say You'll be here in my heart Always As Sonata sang through the song Aria's tears began to subside, as did the storm outside. By the time she finished singing, the only thing they could hear outside was the light rain hitting the window. "Looks like the storm is over." Sonata sighed, untangling their hands and rubbing Arias side. "Don't go," Aria whispered, a hint of urgency in her voice. She sat up slightly, her face was pink and stained with tears but all Sonata could think was how beautiful she looked with the moonlight shining into the room. Aria bit her lip, as if she was afraid to voice what she was thinking, but after a moment she took a breath and let her eyes lock with Sonatas. "I feel better with you here. I feel safer." Aria admitted shyly. "I don't plan to go anywhere," Sonata assured. She adjusted herself so she was a bit more comfortable and opened her arms toward Aria. The purple siren instantly snuggled back into her friend, her arms wrapping around Sonatas waist as her head found its place back in the crook of her neck. "Why are you so scared of thunderstorms?" The question had been plaguing the bluenette since she found Aria in the closet and, with the storm now over and Aria calm, she figured it was ok to ask. "I don't know," She admitted. "Ever since I can remember I've hated storms. People would make up stories and things to try and make me less scared but they never worked. Usually I can get through them with just a blanket over my head and a pillow in my arms, but the storm tonight was really bad. The thunder was so loud and the lightning was so bright and close," Sonata felt Arias arms tighten around her. "I hope your pillow doesn't get jealous of me," Sonata teased lightly, causing Aria to giggle for the first time all night. "Maybe, but he'll get over it. You're comfier than he is." Aria smirked. "I won't need that pillow anymore anyway." "Why's that?" Sonata wondered. "Because you're here, and no matter what I know I'll be ok as long as you're with me." "Good thing I don't plan to go anywhere." Sonata whispered. Aria let her eyes drift closed and nuzzled into Sonata "I love you Sonata" Aria breathed out, Sonata smiled at the words and waited until she felt Arias breath even out before placing a kiss on Arias head. "I love you too Aria" Sonata replied, closing her eyes and drifting off to sleep
