A double entry in the May 2024 Pairings Contest and the Dialogue-Only Contest.

(This story is a semi-sequel to Sun and Flurries, and its related semi-sequels. Familiarity with those works is not required to understand this one. Based on a request from Yaakov Lubin.)

Spike has accepted the request that he become the next dragon lord, even though it means he'll have to leave Twilight and leave behind his position of royal advisor. But Spike has reluctantly decided that it's just what he'll have to do.

As Spike prepares to transition to his new title and his new life, he is surprised to be receive a visit from a princess. Not just any princess, but Princess Flurry Heart, herself a relatively new ruler of the Crystal Empire.

Shocked by the news of Spike's change, Flurry Heart opts to have a conversation with her unofficial "Uncle". In particular, she has her own worries and fears related to her job title that she hopes he'll be able to help her with.

Starlight Glimmer has a secret project researching a totally new way to use magic, but she needs help. Twilight's help. Except, what if the princess doesn't approve? What if she can't see the potential? This is too important. Starlight must convince her, because the results will help ponies everywhere.

Can Starlight, Sunburst, and Trixie work together to successfully write a story for a dialogue only writing contest? Maybe.

Is this too meta a plot for my own entry into a dialogue only writing contest? Also maybe.

Will anybody reading this recognize the song that the title is a play on? Almost certainly not.

Anyway, this is my entry for The Dialogue Only Contest, so be aware that it, you know, only has dialogue. Unless I screwed something up and disqualified myself accidentally. What do you expect me to do, proofread this mess? No thanks.

"What?" Everyone shouted and I winced. I really should have seen that coming.

How the topic of everyone's relationship statuses got brought up, I blame Rarity. I really should have known she would have been the most annoyed at me keeping the fact I wasn't single hidden from her.

Inky Rose doesn't really interact with other ponies all that much. But that doesn't mean she doesn't ever leave the house, and underground shows are exactly her scene.

But the last thing she expected to find at a show like this is Troubleshoes, who looks like he wouldn't know the difference between a goth and a punk if his life depended on it.

Once again, Zephyr Breeze is feeling lost. The breeze is calling him towards a new destiny, a new purpose! If only he knew what that was supposed to be… 

After a chance encounter with the only changeling student at the School of Friendship, he decides to try and find himself at the changeling hive under Thorax’s guidance. 

There, a new danger roaming around the hive has him setting off on a new quest to try his hoof as a Monster Hunter… With Thorax’s grumpy older brother Pharynx. 

Even in these trying circumstances, these two may be able to find an unlikely friendship. And maybe, that friendship could even turn into an even more unlikely love.
