Shift is the daugter of Queen Chrysalis and was born as a normal pony, as are all Changeling royalty. Over time Shift (Known as Lightning Twister to her friends) became friends with a unicorn named Light Charmer and a pegasus named Thunder Dasher.

Changeling royaly are born as normal ponies but develop the horn, bug-like wings, fangs, holes an eventually the ability to transform as they get older, once Shift gained this ability she was told by Chrysalis that he had to bring her friends to her to be changed into mindless, Changeling drones as they may know of Shift's true self.
Shift did not want to dissapoint her mother and teleported Light and Thunder to a small cave, the two ponies were hanging from the celing in cocoons when they saw Chrysalis walking towards them with Shift next to her.

Thunder had thought that Shift was captured by Chrysalis, when suddenly bright green flames surrounded Shift, revealing her changeling form. The two ponies had looks of sheer horror on their faces as Chrysalis told Shift.

"I will let you deal with these two, they will do perfectly for the army."

Before she left the cave. Shift stared up at the ponies, her horn started to glow and the cocoons broke open so that the ponies fell to the ground. They cowered in fear from the Changeling walking towards them, Shift wa now face-to-face with Light.

"I'm not going to hurt you..."

Light smiled, Shift tried to stay serious but couldn't help but start laughing.

"You are the most pathetic thing i've ever seen!"

Her horn started to glow, a strange, green, sticky substance surrounded their hooves, Light tried to run away but was unable to, Shift laughed at her attempts.

"Why Lightning, Why?"

She quietly said to Shift.

"Lightning? You actually believed that dumb name?"

She started laughing again.

"Anyway have fun here, you'll be one of those mindless drones in a matter of hours..."

Shift chuckled as she left...
