Who Made the Sandwich?

Twilight looked at the book in front of her. It wasn’t in there. The answer was not in her books. Remembering to what made her look through every book in her library for an answer.

~~~~~Earlier that day~~~~~~~
Twilight woke up slowly. She dragged herself out of bed and saw that her number one assistant Spike created breakfast for her. Smiling, she sits down on her chair, about to eat some hay pancakes in front of her. The stack of pancakes was tall. Spike knew she couldn’t eat all of these pancakes!
Suddenly, the pancakes giggled. Twilight, who just woke up, jumped out of the chair. Her pancakes… giggled?
Twilight, shaking her head, sat back down. She just imagined it, right? Right. Picking up a fork with her magic, she was about to stick the fork into her pancakes. Suddenly, there was pink. The pancakes have disappeared from sight while Twilight was looking away. There, where the pancakes were, appeared a pink pony. How this pony could hide under a stack of pancakes is anypony’s guess. But Twilight has given up on trying to explain the things that Pinkie does.
“What do you want Pinkie?” Twilight asked.
“How did you know it was me?” Pinkie asked, shocked. “That’s something, my super-duper smartest friend! You must be super-duper DUPER smart, but I already knew that because you are my friend and-
Twilight cut her off. “What do you want Pinkie?”
Pinkie started talking again. “Well, it started a long time ago, like yesterday. Mr. Cake was making Lyra a sandwich, when suddenly I realized. I knew where all foods come from, but have no idea who or why somepony made the sandwich and that’s why I came to you. Because you are my super-duper smarty pants friend!”
Twilight, which was just able to make out Pinkie’s ramblings, was interested. “You bring up a good question Pinkie.” Twilight said.
“I do?”
“Yes.” Twilight nodded sagely. “I have not remembered anything about who made the sandwich.” Suddenly, there was light in Twilight’s eyes. An ‘I need to find the answer’ kind of light. “I WILL find out who made the sandwich! And why!” Twilight said, standing up like some sort of superhero.
“Wow Twilight. All you need is a cape and then you can be…” Pinkie thought for a name. “Captain Egghead! Or maybe Bookwoman! Or-”
Twilight silenced Pinkie with her hoof. “Pinkie. I will find out who made the sandwich. Now… can I eat my breakfast please?”
Pinkie hopped off the table. “Okie Dokie Loki!” She said before hopping out the door like only Pinkie knew how. Twilight, grinning at the pink mare’s seemingly never-ending happiness turned back to her food. Surely finding out who made the sandwich wasn’t going to be very hard, now was it?
~~~

Twilight sighed. Maybe the answer wasn’t in her library. Maybe the answer was in the Canterlot library. After all, the library she had was just a small fraction of what they had in Canterlot. She would tell Pinkie that she would have the answer when she came back.

Getting up, Twilight asked Spike to take care of the library until she came back.

“Alright then Twilight! I swear I won’t eat too much ice cream again!” He blurted out.

Twilight raised an eyebrow. “I never said anything about ice cream.”

Realizing his mistake, Spike tried desperately to cover it up. “Oh… I…. uh…. Just figured you were?” He lied.

Giggling, Twilight said “You are a really bad liar. Now, I’ll be back by the end of the day.”

Spike nodded his head, which meant that he heard her. Walking outside, she booked a train ticket to Canterlot.

~~~
Arriving at Canterlot, she walked a most familiar path. She walked this path every day when she lived in Canterlot.
Walking through the doors of the library, the light brown librarian immediately recognized Twilight. He had amber eyes and a smile that seemed to welcome anypony.
“Ah! Twilight! I haven’t seen you for a long time! Not since you got your own library in Ponyville!”
“Hello there Scroll. How have you been?”
“Quite well! Now, what do you need to day?”
“Well, I need to find a book. For a friend. She had one of her… thoughts and came to me for answers.”
Scroll nodded. “Anypony with a question should come to you. You have read about half of this library.
“More like three fourths. Anyways, she wants to know where the sandwich came from.”
Scroll’s face bunched up like a pony that was confused. “For research or...” his voice trailed off. He had no other reason for a pony to ask such a question.
“It’s just Pinkie Pie. Who knows why she needs to know.”
Scroll nodded. “Well, we don’t exactly know who made the sandwich.” Scroll closed his eyes, trying to remember something from a book he read. Twilight suddenly remembered he had a great memory better if not the same as her own.
“But we do know when it was made. It was made long ago, on August 12th, year 1200.” He opened his eyes. “Hopefully that is enough information for your friend Twilight?”
Twilight knew that it would be enough for Pinkie, so she nodded and told him thank you.
“It’s no problem Twilight. It was nice seeing my old number 1 visitor again!”
Twilight smiled again. “Good bye Scroll. I will come back here if I have another question.”
Scroll laughed. “You won’t need to come back here to ask me a question. You will probably already know the answer.”
Twilight smiled and left the library.
Yes, the ‘when’ was good enough for Pinkie Pie, Twilight knew that. But she still needed to know who and why. If it was unanswered, Twilight needed to answer it. And she knew how.
Twilight turned into an alleyway. Nopony would see her cast the spell here. Twilight, focusing her magic, cast the spell that her old self travel back in time to warn herself nothing bad was going to happen. Only this time, she would travel back even further, and not knowing where.
Twilight, just remembering this problem, tried to remember what the book said about the ‘where’ to travel, and not just the ‘when.’ Apparently, if she tried focusing on an event, then she would travel to the needed spot.
Focusing all of her magic, the purple unicorn went into the past with a small “pop.”
~~~

She was… on a counter? Twilight looked around. The place was Canterlot alright. Just an old Canterlot. She was on a counter, in somepony’s house. This would not be good. She had to hide. Twilight jumped off the counter, accidentally knocking some things down. She could hear hoofsteps, so she could not be bothered to pick them up.

In came a grey pony. She had a black mane and a cutie mark of a cupcake. This mare in question took one look at the counter…

And smiled.

“Whatever happened here?” The mare asked to no one in particular. Twilight could just barely see what the mare was looking at. On the counter was a piece of bread, and on top were some vegetables. On top of that was another piece of bread.
This must have happened when I jumped off the counter.

Suddenly, she felt a tingling sensation. And with another small “pop” she was back in the present.

Twilight took the whole train ride back to Ponyville to piece together what this meant.
It was me. I made the sandwich, because I was looking for who made the sandwich. Twilight groaned.
This will take a lot of explaining to Pinkie
