//------------------------------// // The Inventor // Story: My Little Inventor // by Mr.120110 //------------------------------// All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. -Walt Disney Chapter 1 The Inventor The bright luminescent glow of a group of monitors pierced through the dimly lit room. The silhouette of a midsized humanoid figure walked up to the screens reveling a scrawny teenage boy wearing a tattered lab coat. He had light green eyes and his brown hair did not cover his face, but only hung over it like a rim of a baseball cap. He was smirking and showing a determined look on his face as he plopped himself into the office chair in front of the monitors. “This is it,” the boy said, “nearly two years of designing and testing. Yes, today’s the day alright, I can feel it.” The boy studied the computer screen intensely being sure to check every little detail of the schematic's for a strange device. “OK,” he said to himself, pushing his chair over to a series of sliders, switches, and dials. “Calibrating navigator and stabilization units.” Quickly and carefully he set each control, making sure to double check them as he went. He slid himself back over to the computer screens. “Running simulation test!” He announced as he typed in a command for the computer. He then rolled his chair over to an object that read energy gauges. “Checking energy levels!” The boy spoke as he looked at all the gauges and gave a huge grin, “All energy levels are green!” Once aging pushing himself back over to the cluster of computer screens. “Setting coordinates!” The boy proudly shouted while typing on the keyboard in front of him, “Running final system check!” Looking at the screen as it now read: Calculating destination.....Finished! Destination: DmX_j83499-MLP10454G_FIM \Multiverse:“DmX_j83499-MLP10454G_FIM” correct? {y/n} y; Searching................ multiverse Found! Locating origin......... origin located! \Set destination as origin? {y/n} y; Setting..............destination Set! RUN>final_system_check; Checking: Stabilizer units.......calibrated Navigator........calibrated Simulation test.........successful Program.................ready Energy levels..........optimal Destination..........set Machine condition...........good Quantonium............installed Miscellaneous checkups..........finished Final system check.........complete! The boy eyeballed the next phrase on the screen... System ready, press “EXECUTE_BUTTON” to start. “Its...ready,” He whispered in an astonished tone. Slowly turning his chair to face a large green button on top a thin metal pillar at the other side of the laboratory. The boy carefully and cautiously got up from his chair and walked torwords it. His heart now racing, his body sweating. This is it, he thought, once this button is pushed there will be no turning back. His hand extended just a few feet above the light emerald green button. “But...,” He whispered to himself, “what if it doesn't work... what if...,” he hesitated, “what if its just like all the times before?” The boy stood there pondering for a minute about all the what ifs. He then looked to his right, looking to where a small bedroom that was elevated above the floor resided. Through the window of the wooden walls he saw his childhood drawing of him, posted up next to a group of pastel colored ponies. “.........” “No... this time it's going to be different. It has to be different.” He raised his hand above his head, readying it to slam down on the button... “Stop right there!!” A voice shouted from behind. The boy turned around to find two policemen standing before him. “Officers, what can I do for you?” The boy said with a wavering worried tone. “You Aaron Walowick?” One asked while tilting his head as the two walked up to the boy. “Y-Yes.” The boy said. “Aaron Walowick, you are under arrest for being a danger to others,” the man said while pulling out a card from his pocket. “W-what?!” Aaron squeaked as the handcuffs clamped around his hands. The officer ignored him and started to read the card, “You have the right to remain silent...” “B-but I-” “Anything you say or do, can and will be held against you in a court of law..” “I don-” “You have the right to speak to an attorney.” The man continued to read Aaron his rights while Aaron, still shocked by his arrest, just stood there. When the officer finished the two men walked Aaron out of the laboratory. What the hell just happened?! Aaron thought to himself, is this really happening or am I having a nightmare? He continued to recite in his head what event just took placed just now as he left the lab. **** The next day in court... “May the defendant please rise.” the judge said. The well dressed boy stood up form his chair. “Aaron Walowick,” The judge spoke bluntly, “As you are aware, you are on trial for being a danger to the citizens of Waterfield, are you not?” Aaron gave a slight nod, “Yes, your honer.” The judge put on his glasses, “Now, though I am a resident here,” The judge now shuffling through the papers on his podium, “It is my duty as a representative of the law, that I must remain impartial, and make an unbiased decision onto whether or not you are guilty, and the punishment you will so receive if you are.” Aaron just stood there frozen in a state of fear, Oh God! Please find me innocent, Please! He prayed in his head. There was a brief pause before the judge continued, “Through the charges against you don't seem to apply to you necessarily, but more or less to your inventions.” Sweat rolled down Aaron's head, Please, Please, PLEASE! “And so, after going over whats been presented here today, and with careful consideration, I have reach a verdict.” Aaron now Praying in his head with all his might, Innocent, please god, find me INNOCENT!! “And so, by the power invested to me by the state of law, I here by declare you guilty of being a danger to others.” The gavel slammed down on the wooden block with a loud clap. Aaron felt the room spin before him. The audience started to whisper up cheers and words of victory around the court room. “Alright settle down, settle down, I'm still talking here.” The Judge slammed the gavel a couple times, and the court room returned to its typical orderly fashion. “Now, Where was I.” He gave a cough, cleared his throat, then faced to Aaron, “Aaron Walowick, as you yourself don't seem to be a direct dange-” The prosecution bolted up for the chair, “Your honer, the defendant has-” The judge raised his voice to speak over the man, “Has not intentionally or directly brought harm to anyone, nor is he mentally ill. Now, sit down!” Waving the gavel at the man as he finished. The man dropped back into his seat. “Now, if there won't be anymore interruptions,” He said, then turned to face Aaron once again, “Aaron Walowick, because of all things I stated before,” The judge now setting the gavel down and interlacing his fingers together, “I think that jail time or commitment is not in order, for you yourself are not the problem at hand here.” Once aging there was a brief pause before the judge continued, “Let me ask you something boy, do you consider yourself a genius?” Aaron, who was scare out of his mind and sweating like a sprinkler responded, “Yes I do your honer.” “Well that's a shame, I'm sorry I have to do this to you boy, but... Aaron Walowick...” The boy was now shaking like a pair of maracas. “With the power invested to me by the state, I hereby permanently strip you of your rights for scientific pursuits.” Aaron felt his entire world shatter. “Your laboratory is to be dismantled by the end of next week. Lastly, I will give you the remaining 48 hours to remove your personal things the your laboratory's bedroom. Court adjourned.” He said slamming down the gavel for the last time and the people dispersed. No...this can't be...no, just no. Aaron got up from his seat and walked out of the court house, silently dragging his feet along the way. The sun had set now. The pale blue light from the moon illuminated the night sky. It couldn't have been no later the 9:30pm that evening. The streets were all empty. The residents of the small town where already home in their beds, all except for one. The lonely boy now walked the vacant roads with only his regrets. “Well, Aaron, it could be worse, you could have been sent to jail.” He said to himself as he approached his house. The boy looked up at his lab, “Some inventor I’ve turned out to be,” He opened the door to his house and went inside. “Every invention I've ever made ended in disaster, that one probably end the same way with this one too.” He opened the closet door and grabbed a bunch of cardboard boxes and some packing tape, then headed to the back door. Aaron opened the back door only to find a group of policemen there guarding the entrance to the laboratory. He pulled out his wallet and showed his driver's license to the two guards outside the police tape. The man studied the card, nodded, then gave it back, “Alright, come with us.” He said while giving a gesture with his hand to the boy and he followed. The two guards escorted him into the laboratory and up the metal stairs to his bedroom. Aaron set the boxes down, took out the tape, and then started to put his things in the boxes. “I need to take a dump, you think can you keep an eye on him?” One the police officers said. “Sure.” The other responded. “Alright, don't let him out of your sight.” He said as he went down the stairs and across the lab. When the man was gone, the other officer stood the at the entrance of the bedroom. He looked around the room noticing some strange devices laying on a shelf in the room. The man walked over to them and picked one up. Aaron looked up shifting his eyes to the policeman and then to what he was holding. The man studied the object intensely. It look like a gun, but it had some sort of tube on the top of it and it had two gauges on its side. There was a dial on it, and a small array at the end of its barrel too. “What is this?” The cop ask in a curious voice. “A jump start gun.” Aaron stated as he returned to packing his things. “Huh, I've seen all kinds of guns in life, but,” The man gave a slight chuckle, “Nothing like this.” The policeman aimed it at the wall. “That's because its the only one of its kind, I made it so that one would be able to easily jump start machinery.” “No kidding.” The boy now lowered his head, “But, all it did was blow the car up.” The man put the gun down and saw the poster on the wall. “You like this show?” He asked. “Yes.” Aaron said in an annoyed tone. He remembered the day when the kids at school found out that he was a brony. “My daughter watches that show.” The cop said. “Good show.” He stated, “But it's not my type.” The man said. “What do you prefer then then?” Aaron asked in a relief. “Action most likely.” The man continued to scout the room with his eyes. “And that's why your a cop?” Aaron spoke in a curious tone. “Yeah, but this wasn't as good as I thought it would be.” The cop said shaking his head. “How so?” Aaron asked. The officer shrugged his shoulders, “Well, most of the time your either stuck on the road catching speeders or running patrols.” “Oh.” Aaron responded while directing his eyes to the ID card on the man that read Gary Coleman. The man looked out the window, “Pretty spacious.” “Yeah.” Aaron taped up the box and grabbed another one from his side. The officer looked down and saw a large green button. Then he tilted his head up to find something that grabbed his attention. There sat a enormous contraption spanning from the floor of the lab to its ceiling. It had a metal ring as a base and had stairs going up towards the center of it. There was also four steep ramps equally spaced out around ring, each housing some sort of array that was pointing torwords the middle of the device. And the middle section, it too was another interesting part of the machine. It was almost empty except for a wire frame dome that, for some reason, was made out of what appeared to be gold. The top was shaped like a flattened hour glass and there was a large flat screen attached to it that read Destination: DmX_j83499-MLP10454G_FIM // origin. There was also two frames on opposite sides bolted to the top of the monstrosity. Each extended down to the mid section where they each held a group of three monitors that gave information such as weather, atmospheric make up, radiation levels, and other useful bit of info. The man then noticed a strange glow. it was coming from an orb that was welted to a small upside down dome. The dome itself, was bolted to the base of the top. The orb was placed at the top the golden cage irradiating a multitude of colors around it. “What is THAT?” That guard asked in astonishment. “What is what?” Aaron said look up to find a scared, yet intrigued, police officer gazing at the mechanical wonder. “Oh, that.” Aaron said, going back to packing his things, “That's the invention I was working on before I was arrested.” The man now want to get a better look at it walked over to the stairs and went a few steps down. It was unbelievable how huge it was, the device dwarfed the bed room. He was absolutely baffled by how he was able to see it all from the window. “W-what,” the cop hesitated for a moment as he was sacred to even ask, but his curiosity got the best of him and he continued, “What does it do?” “Omiversal travel.” Aaron answered bluntly. “Wait, like Doctor Who?” “No, Doctor Who was a time traveler.” Aaron grabbed another box from the corner. “Well, does it work?” The officer said standing there on the steps. “I... I don't know I've never got to test it.” Aaron stop packing his things for a moment and just sat there gazing a the ground. “Huh, well, that's a shame...” “Yeah, it is.” Aaron whispered to himself, getting up and walking over to his desk with a box. As he packed his office supplies from his desk he found a slingshot in one of the drawers along with a rubber band ball. Aaron looked up at the MLP poster and then his drawing, then peered out the window at the computer screen. “System ready, press “EXECUTE_BUTTON” to start.” Aaron the gazed at the large button and then back at the slingshot. He look at the policeman who was to distracted by the contraption. Aaron picked up the slingshot and rubber band ball and started to aim it at the button. The guard turned and saw what the boy was doing. “HEY! STOP!” He yelled as he rushed to Aaron. Aaron released his grip on the loaded ball and it rocketed down on to the button. The cop quickly restrained Aaron as the machine started to hum furiously and neon lights lit up round it. The guard now terrified gave a holler for his partner. Just then the whole lab shook like there was an earthquake. The aurora around the orb grew more intense. Objects started to fall off the shelves. Aaron looked on with anticipation. Then suddenly, everything when silent. The two waited, looking at the machine as if it was about to do something, but it just sat there quietly. Aaron realizing once again his invention was a failure was devastated. Everything was over, he thought to himself, he had lost his lab, he had no friends, and he just lost his only hope of escape. The other officer came bolting out of the bathroom still trying to zip his pants up. “What the hell was that?!” The cop yelled to his friend. “It's nothing, just this kid trying to pull a fast one. I have everything under control.” His friend replied back the man who was now trying to get his belt on. “Well? Bring him down here!” The man said while lacing the belt through the loops of his pants. The guard escorted Aaron down the steps. “What about my stuff?” Aaron ask them. The officer having a tough time with his belt replied, “Forget it, you blew it!” “Come on lets get out of here.” The other said as they escorted Aaron to the exit. But the moment they started towards the door a drop of water hit their eyes. Aaron noticed something odd in front of him... It was raining... UP. “What in god's name is going on here!?” One of the policemen said. “This rain, but how-” Aaron turn his head and gave a HUGE gasp. “What's he lookin-WHAAAAAAAAAA!!!” The officer released his grip on Aaron letting both Aaron's arms and his hang there in shock. “Gary, what is it t-t-this...time.” The other man turned around to join the rest, completely oblivious to the fact that his pants were now laying on the floor.
