I'd had an idea similar to this back when the Simple Ways episode came out. That and Spike at Your Service. The idea being:
Spike wants Rarity.
Rarity wants Trenderhoof.
Trenderhoof wants Applejack.
Applejack wants Spike.
The idea was the same. Essentially a four chapter arc revolving around the orthogonal relationship. But I could never get around to fleshing out the details or how it would end. So it never came to be.

[Edit] On fresh thought, perhaps it would end with Spike ending up with Trenderhoof, ending with the implications of RariJack.
