Asterisk surrounded by whitespaces in the middle of the sentence represents a Wild Card: the reader who encounters a Wild Card is ought to think of a suitable word and replace the Wild Card with it. Have fun! > Chapter 1: How Everything Started > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once upon a time, in a magical land of Equestria, there lived a princess Lunestia. She were actually two princesses, mostly because she always referred to herself in plural tense and worked like there was someone else to make her work for her. Princess Lunestia raised Sun, raised Moon and raised questions every day. One of the questions was: why did we never see the princess actually doing anything to move either the Sun or the Moon? Can't they actually move on they own? The answer was obviously no, because who in the world would dare to accuse such a beautiful innocent princess of pulling the wool over her subjects' eyes! Princess Lunestia had many students because she also was a teacher who taught students. I honestly can't say what could they learn from her (the princess wasn't much educated), but my story is not about it. My story is about Fluttersparkle, who basically is Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle together. She is both really shy and really smart and she's one of the princess Lunestia's favorite students. One day, princess Lunestia summoned Fluttersparkle for a serious talk. Fluttersparkle, as a shy pony alicorn, was afraid of talking seriously, so she didn't do came. Lunestia messaged her then that she had a sweet cake to share with her, and so Fluttersparkle decided: "Why not? I don't mind eating cakes." "My faithful student," started Lunestia when Fluttersparkle appeared before her, "I want to talk with you about friendship." "Yes, friendship: lying about the cake was really unfriendly of you!" Fluttersparkle agreed. Princess Lunestia was unable to figure out how to respond and dismissed Fluttersparkle. Fluttersparkle went to her room. There Spike the baby dragon awaited her, worried about his friend's visit to princess Lunestia. Fluttersparkle told there was no cake and Spike became sad. He hoped that she would bring him a piece or two. "She wants a serious talk!" exclaimed Fluttersparkle. "I'm so worried! And I am also really upset about this cake. Or, more precisely, this no-cake." Spike gave her a friendly hug and tried to calm her down by saying that things could have been worse. For example, she could've got bitten by a mosquito and get malaria and eventually die of a disease. That was really sweet of him, but Fluttersparkle remained to be worried. "I'm so sure she's going to send me to Ponyville to make some friends! You know, Spike, nopony who was sent before me did ever return from Ponyville!" Fluttersparkle remarked. "Well, maybe it's because they all made a lot of good friends there and didn't want to come back?" Spike assumed. "That's what I'm essentially afraid of. When the bonds become really tight, Spike, you cannot reject them anymore, you feel like you are nothing without your friends, that you can't live without them. I don't want to get attached to anypony this much!" "But you're attached to me, aren't you?" Spike asked. Fluttersparkle was unable to figure out how to respond and dismissed Spike. Spike went to his room. Fluttersparkle started to understand something really important and boarded a train to Ponyville this instant. The adventure begins. > Chapter 2: The Adventure > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Ponyville, Fluttersparkle met Raridash and Applepie, and aslo Scootiebloom, and Nurse Big Cherimond Tiarajor Mare, or Buddy, as her friends tended to call her for some reason. If only Fluttersparkle knew that all of them actually were superheroes... For example, Raridash is Supermare, Scootieboom is Spidermare etc. Just kidding, they are not, but my story would be superboring if I didn't mention superheroes one way or another. Anyway, Fluttersparkle felt really attached to these ponies and decided to stay with them forever and ever. She even fell for one of them and even asked her out. On a date, Fluttersparkle asked this mare: "So, what are you actually up to? I mean, what do you do for living?" "Well, I suppose I am good at sewing dresses and doing awesome stunts and crusading for my cutiemark and throwing the parties etc., but my primary occupation is the Search," her new fillyfriend answered. "The Search?" Fluttersparkle asked. "It's about finding the Way," the mare explained. "Oh," Fluttersparkle responded. Spike suddenly appeared. "Fluttersparkle, princess Lunestia is worrying about you!" he said. "I don't know who he is," Fluttersparkle exclaimed, pointing at a baby dragon. "Me neither," stated Fluttersparkle fillyfriend. "But he's handsome. What's your name, little guy?" "My name is Spike and I'm straight," Spike answered. "Spike, you're supposed to be in bed right now," Fluttersparkle said quitely. "I never sleep because I'm technically a diamond dust golem," Spike said. "Also I'm not really straight because diamond dust golems can't have sexual affections." "That explains a lot!" said Fluttershy, terrified. "But diamond dust golems do have feelings," exclaimed the baby diamond dust golem dragon. "Fluttersparkle, I care for you, I love you, and I miss you a lot. Screw your new Ponyville friends and let's go back to the castle. Princess Lunestia has baked you a cake." "You... you love her?" said Buddy sadly (apparently she was the one who Fluttersparkle asked out). "But that's... not fair!" "What do you mean?" Fluttershy asked. "...I think I got a crush on him!" "Oh, wait a minute!" Fluttershy+TwilightSparkle interrupted. "We're dating here, remember? I forbid you to fall in love with Spike!" "If you love her, you must let her go," Spike said. "But what if I don't want to?" "That's a difficult question, not the one to just ask anypony, heh. Remember, when you were a little filly you stumbled across a crying baby? With no parents around, she was totally alone. The street was deserted, too, like all the world was trying to desolate the infant. So she cried, with no one around to hug her and to soothe her grief. She cried so loud that you cringed and corked your ears up with your forehooves so you couldn't hear the piercing high pitched noise the empty street was filled with. And you went through, trying not to look at the bundle the baby was nestled in, as if it was the most terryfying thing to look at. For you it was, at that moment. When you finally passed along the baby and found yourself on another street, crowded and cheerful, you inhaled with a relief, although since that day something bitter pecked you from the inside of your heart whenever you dared to think about the lonely child." "No such thing did ever happen to me," Fluttersparkle said. "Besides, this story has nothing to do with... with anything! It's nonsense!" "Your face is nonsense!" Buddy retorted and hugged baby golem dragon guy instantly. "You are just jealous that you can't be as smart as your pet son brother! Mike, that was so poetic, you totally must write the books. As the Searchist, I admire the way you see the world and insist you on sharing your perception with ponykind!" "I actually have written one book already," Spike noted modestly. "It's called... The Serpent Seen." "Wow!.." Buddy whispered enthusiastically. "Want to take a look?" "Sure!" Spike (who Buddy mistakenly referred to as Mike) put a giant manuscript folio on the table, opened it on Page One and started reading aloud. > Chapter 3: The Serpent Seen > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Twas an long dark gloomy stormy night. The trees wereth talking rustly gibberish to each other, the Rays of Moon fiercely trieth to fight their way through the wild black clouths that hath invadeth the sky. The Hero Came. The Serpent. He have Seen the storm. He could almost taste it with his tongue. For many years he expected it to be here. The Zero Game. The Represent. He hath Heareth the storm. He could almost reach it with his hand. For many week he was making his way here. The Nero Fame. The Endestenent. He Appeareth for the storm. He could almost try to rotate it different ways. For many decades he deffered his fate. The WereTame. The Serdespiegel. He hath Defeateth the storm. The storm was like a worm. Now everything is norm. He - won. He - one. He - on the winning stone. He wins so many times. That's nice! The steamed rice!" Spike stopped reading and eagerly looked at his listeners. "So..." Fluttersparkle's Twilight Sparkle part said. "I don't quite get it. Like, was this a poem or a prose?" "Did you even listen?" Spike moaned offendedly. "I did!" Buddy exclaimed rapturously. "The story was about a Hero who hath defeateth the Storm! He came, he Seen, he Serpent! Veni, mini, ditto! Just pipe'er rec! You cannot understand it, shy Twilight Fluttersparkle!" "Even if I can't," Fluttersparkle interrupted, "Can we hear the rest of the story?" Spike scratched his head. There was no rest of the story. Heroes, as we know, never know rest. Fighting is their very life. Then a letter appeared from the Spike's mouth. "Jake, are you all right?" Buddy asked. "Yes, I'm fine. It's just a letter. And it reads: "Dear Princess Solaria, Today I learned that everything is valuable And every little thing deserves the praise. No matter what is it: particular or general, Is planted in it's place or is misplaced, Occasional or persistent, It's beautiful if it's existent! Your faithful student, Gloaming Spangle." Buddy, enamoured of the verses, asked: "Did you come up with them by yourself? Oh, Jordan!" She turned to Fluttersparkle the magical alicorn pony from Canterhattan castle. "I'm afraid we have to break up with each other. You enjoy anibooks*, and I - only certain. The Poetry is the Search, and the Search is the Poetry. That's what I believe the Search is. Spike knows no rest, and he's a Searchist, too, that's why I love him. Kay bye." ENDING So, this is the end. Love is lost. Hope is gone. * A pun. > Chapter 4: Conclusion. Le Epilogue. Коньцовка. > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluttersparkle looked out of the window. The pegasusae magnae were flying above the Cantarhattan's roovies. The air was clean and considered safe. Fluttersparkle was trying to compose anagrams: for example, she composed sentence "SPIKE'LL TRY SHAFTWRIGHT LUTE". She didn't know what shaftwright lute was, though, but she reasoned that Spike would love to try something new. Spike came in. "Spike, do you wanna try shaftwright lute?" a young alicorn princess with no crown whatsoever asked. "Not now, Twilight, I mane* Fluttersparkle. The Princess is summoning upon you." Spike responded. "Princess Lunestia?" "There's no way to tell," he said mystically and went away. "I am not going anywhere," Fluttersparkle decided. "I don't feel like so." Spike's head again appeared briefly in the entrance. "By the way, the Princess told she had got a sweet cake for you. If you mind visiting her, that is." Spike said and disappeared again. Fluttersparkle felt more concerned. "A cake? Why not? I don't mind eating cakes." she thought and went to the throne room. "My faithful student," started Lunestia when Fluttersparkle appeared before her, "I want to talk with you about friendship." A Future Fluttersparkle suddenly appeared. She was all solid like a snake: firm, lithe, artful and smokin'. "Sorry," FF (Future Fluttersparkle) said. "My timespace spell misfired." FF disappeared, everything went spinning and the present has changed forever. * An ingenious pun. 10 YEARS AGO . . . Fluttersparkle has never been to this street before. She always did her best to avoid it because Stacey warned her some ruffians were constantly hanging about there. Not a place for a filly to roam along. Carried away with her fancies, she didn't notice however how she made her way here. Strangely, nopony was around: the houses looked so abandoned, too. A creepy place, indeed. She went furhter, looking around both diffidently and astonished. The surroundings seemed odd, scary, and yet curious. Shattered windows, shabby walls, mangy cobblestone road. A ghost alley of a kind. Taking a few more steps, she heard a baby crying. Fluttersparkle noticed that the sound comes from a bundle, lying beneath the door of one of the old houses. Fluttersparkle cringed and stoppled her ears for a moment: the cry was that loud. For some reason she expected a mother of the baby to appear and calm the baby down, but this never happened, the baby just kept going on and on. After waiting for some time, Fluttersparkle decided to go past the bundle, trying not to look at it, as if it was a terrible thing to look at. For her it was, for that moment. A mare stood up in front of her. The mare was all solid like a snake: firm, lithe, artful and smoking. She blocked her way and looked at her closely. Fluttersparkle felt frightened: isn't that one of the ruffians Stacey told her about? Both of them stood quietly, looking at each other for a certain time. "What's wrong?" the mare asked. "Scared of me?" "I... I want to go." "Why, go then. I'm not holding you." Fluttersparkle attempted to move along, but stopped. She could still hear the baby's cry. "Uhm..." Fluttersparkle babbled. "Are you from around here, ma'am?" "Might be," the mare answered. "Why?" "Just... there's a baby, she's all crying and so..." The mare's lips formed a thin grin. "Are you embarassed with her crying? Why don't you try to quiet her down then?" "I thought it wasn't one of my business," Fluttersparkle remarked. "And whose business is it? I don't see why a mother would leave her child alone in such a spooky place. Maybe the little one's got no pony left to quiet her down but you." "Oh. I... didn't think about it." Fluttersparkle turned back again to hear the piercing high pitched noise. "Come on, don't hesitate," the mare said. "It's only a baby, I doubt she can hurt you." For some unapparent reason, Fluttersparkle felt that this would be the right thing to do. She trotted forth to the bundle's location rather quickly and carefully lifted the baby from it. Baby seemed to be somewhat heavy, but Fluttersparkle did her best not to drop her. "There, there," the filly whispered. "Don't you cry. You're in safety. See? We're all good ponies here." The baby's crying began to fade away slowly until it completely disappeared. The street was filled again with blunt silence. Fluttersparkle dandled the little pony for a while. The mare was standing behind her. Fluttersparkle raised her smiling face to the mare and said: "She likes me. Look, she's giggling." "Wasn't that hard, was it?" the mare asked. "It wasn't," Fluttersparkle nodded. "Do you think her mommy will come back for her?" "I know for sure she won't," the mare responded. "Don't ask me how. Did your mother come back for you, anyway?" Fluttersparkle lowered her head thoughtfully. "My mother?.. I never seen her. I guess she didn't. So... but how do you know?" "Oh, never mind. I just told something silly. Don't stuff your head, enjoy the baby." "Okay," Fluttersparkle agreed and returned to coddle the little pony. "She's beautiful. I wonder what her name is? Can we ever know?" "If you really wish, I can say," mare proposed. "Really?" Fluttersparkle looked at her excitedly. "What is it?" "Fluttersparkle." Fluttersparkle froze. She carefully looked at the baby's face and... it appeared to share a lot of similarities with her own. Moreover, the colors of both mane and coat matched precisely with hers. She once again looked at the older pony to examine her more thoroughly and spotted as much common features with herself as with the baby. Never again in her life was she as surprised as then.
