Making Minecraft An Open Sandbox Again · 3:21am April 30th

While I didn't make much progress on the season six movie today, that was because I wanted to come up with a way to turn Minecraft into being more of the open sandbox experience it was originally known for by focusing on player choices.

The solution? Creating a set of what I'm calling win conditions for survival game play. I'll be adding to the list over time as more updates get added, but right now I've got five. And it's be great if these conditions were spread around, as I want to make Minecraft be about player choice again, so that there's no one way to beat the game.

  • The First Condition I came up with was an easy one to come up with; I refer to it as the Boss Battles Condition. It's simple to complete: Just defeat the Enderdragon, the Wither, and the Warden at least once each.
  • The second condition I came up with I like to refer to as the Pet Owner Condition. For this condition, tame a wolf (any breed), an ocelot (any color), horse (any kind), and a Donkey.
  • The third condition is a little more unorthodox and I call it the Illager Raid Condition. This condition requires you to tame ten Allays, raid a woodland mansion, and cure a zombie villager.
  • The fourth condition is one I call the Underwater Living Condition. For this one, you must defeat an Elder Guardian, craft a conduit, and construct an Underwater House.
  • The fifth and final condition I came up with was in preparation for the upcoming Trial Chambers addition and is thus called the Trails & Wolves Condition. For this one, you have to tame five different wolf breeds, survive a trail chamber (meaning both the normal & special spawners must stop spawning), and clear an Illager outpost (meaning, free any & all trapped allay, defeat all the stationed Illagers there, and grab all the loot)

Feel free to use these conditions in your own survival worlds. And since you now have the choice to choose which one to go for, one time you might decide to go for the Illager Raid Condition, and another you'll go for the Underwater Living Condition. Essentially, now the journey is YOURS to make for yourself.
