Angry PMs · 4:14pm Jun 25th, 2016
When I get angry PMs from authors whose stories I left a negative comment on, I always laugh. This one I got a few minutes ago is one of the funniest I've ever seen.
FUCK OFF WHO MADE U A HIGH HORSE CRITIC SO WHAT IF YOU DIDN'T LIKE MY STORY FLAT OUT BEING A TROLL IS WEAK AND YOU KNOW WHAT IF U DON'T LIKE MY STORIES YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEE THEM EVER AGAIN BECAUSE UR BLOCKED FROM MY ACCOUNT SO FIND SOMETHING BETTER TO DO WITH YOUR LIFE INSTEAD OF BEING A NARK AND UR STORIES ARE AWFUL IF YOU ASK ME. C==3
What do these authors think this is going to accomplish? Make me beg for mercy and promise to stop being so mean? I didn't like the story, and I said so. More importantly, I said why. There's nothing I hate more than seeing comments that just say 'This story sucks' without any attempt to explain why. That's trolling. Even a single sentence will do. Even a snarky comment can have valuable insight.
This particular PM was in response to a reasonably long critique I left on a poorly written story. Of course the comment has been deleted...but screencaps are most assuredly a thing that exist, so once again, nothing was accomplished.
It really makes you wonder what goes through these authors' heads.
I feel like people should be required to watch a how to deal with criticism video before they are allowed to post their first story. This is certainly how not to respond.
Amazing.
4048004 The author in question actually has three other stories, one of which is a comment graveyard. It really should be mandatory to have to read that blog post that Obselescence wrote a while back about how to take criticism.
Criticism can be very hard to take, but I think the ability to deal with it in a constructive fashion is not only valuable but INVALUABLE to our lives -- and especially to those of us who do things on the internet.
There are lots of factors to be taken into account, here -- how you worded your critique, what said critique consisted of, the things the author has heard before/is sensitive about, etc. -- but the short version is quite simple: judging by the parting shot of "oh btw ur stories suk 2 haha", they're overly sensitive about their story and uncertain of their ideas, so they're lashing out at critics in defense of their skill. That could be one possible reason.
That is, of course, the WRONG way to go about responding to criticism. All caps, assuming that you're a troll, and then saying that your own stuff lacks in quality just means that they're not going to look at what you said and consider the fact that maybe you were right. I myself have had to fight really hard to learn how to deal with criticism in a constructive way, no matter HOW I get said criticism, and if you took the time to leave a detailed comment then it was certainly something that should have been looked at as more than "trolling".
Well, c'est la vie. That particular writer is one who will never get any better.
Lol!!! Omg do you know what story it is and can you send me the link to it I have to see this for myself how bad the story is!
4048215 I'd rather not. Not only is that poor sportsmanship, it can also lead to trouble with the mods.

*Sighs*
No I didn't want to laugh at them intentionally I just wanted to read the story for myself to judge weather it was a bad story or not. One of my favorite stories of all times on Fimfiction is considered a bad story yet I like it. Anyway, have you read Skulduggery Pleasant?
4048291 No. No I haven't.
What does that have to do with anything?

You write good. I was just wondering if you have read good books.
4048427 Well, I haven't read those. I appreciate your kind words, however.
