Rinnaul

I do nothing of merit. On occasion, I give the impression of being creative, but this is a deception. I am merely derivative in clever ways.

Dropping in to try and find some art

So my hard drive bricked back in the fall, and I finally replaced my computer with the stimulus money. But I don't really have a good way to try and recover the stuff that was on there, so that sucks.

But, I was hoping for some help in finding one particular bit of pony art that I haven't been able to dig up again since then.

Welp, that's just... everything fucked, I guess

So back around June 20, I wrecked my car.

Then back on August 28, the tires on my wife's car got torn up hitting something on the road, and we wound up needing all new tires.

I don't think my cat likes my work

So it's been a struggle to write anything, for various reasons, but I *was* trying to get back onto Legacy Ch 4 not long ago.

Then today I was sitting at the table and started hearing faint tearing noises from behind me. I turned around and discovered that somehow my rough draft had wound up on the floor and the cat had done this:

    Random Encounter

This was a fun moment. Choppy cause I had to remove a bunch of game speech commands and the usual bit of racist shit-talking.

Also this was before I found out Scribbler did another reading of my stuff. I would have probably said that instead of RCL.

TLDR: Vaccines are safe. Lack of herd immunity kills. Get your flu shot. · 2:04am Oct 1st, 2017

I encountered this on a Facebook comment thread and decided that, since we're headed into flu season, it deserved a response, because this kind of "warning", devoid of context and clarification, is really just scaremongering. I'm reposting it here because this is important, and because Twilight would want us to stand up for scientific accuracy.

Now, going down the list:

Formaldehyde — This is what deactivates the virus and makes the vaccine into a vaccine, and not just an injection of disease. Formaldehyde is naturally occurring, and produced within the body, as well as occurring withing many foods. The amount you receive in a vaccine is negligible compared to what you encounter in your diet. A banana naturally contains as much formaldehyde as 18 flu shots (based on an average banana and the flu vaccine with the HIGHEST formaldehyde content).

Thimerosal/Mercury — Thimerosal uses ethylmercury. It is quickly cleared from the body, cannot accumulate within nerve tissue, and poses few long-term risks. The compound that people are regularly warned against consuming in seafood is methylmercury, which can build up in body tissues and cause severe damage over time. They are diferent. Regardless, Thimerosal-free vaccines are available. This is also the substance antivaxxers are up in arms about, but Thimerosal has not been used in children's vaccines for nearly 20 years.

Egg Protein — This is in there, and for those with severe egg allergies, it is a valid concern. However, anyone able to eat cooked eggs should have nothing to fear, and severe reactions occur in only one per 741,000 cases. Those with severe reactions to egg should have their vaccine administered in a hospital environment, or seek an egg-free version (yes, these also exist).

Sucrose/Gelatin — Sucrose is just sugar. Gelatin is made from animal collagen, and allergic reactions are possible, but the rate is only one in one million.

Polysorbate 80 — A common food additive, and used in several medications. While it may be harmful to people with Crohn's Disease, the European or American will consume the equivalent of roughly 4,000 flu shots in Polysorbate 80 every day through their regular diet.

Aluminum Salts — Seasonal influenza vaccines do not use added adjuvants.

Penicillin/Sulfa Drugs — While penicillin and sulfonamides are the antibiotic drugs most likely to cause severe, even deadly reactions, they are not used in the production of vaccines. Some vaccine manufacturing processes use other antibiotics in the virus cultivation stage, but subsequent purification and processing reduces them to undetectable trace amounts.

I've actually been curious lately about the articles saying that flu shots are less effective than in the past and how much merit there really is. As for pics like that, have they heard about the threat of Dihydrogen monoxide?

I haven't seen any articles on that, but it might be a growing resistance in the virus strains, though I think that's more a problem with bacteria than viruses, or a greater number of strains making the yearly strain more difficult to predict. I'm not sure because, despite doing a post about this, I'm no expert, and my rebuttal is just the result of an hour or two on Google.

As for the ever-present threat of dihydrogen monoxide...

DHMO is a danger that no one is doing anything about! It's in our schools! Our elementary schools! Think of the children! There's a lot of facts found at http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html about this dangerous chemical

Just goes to show that you can make anything sound super deadly just by phrasing it right.

I'm shocked that image completely ignores the true danger! Stabbing metal into people is linked to hundreds of death every year! Vaccine injections are often done with metal needles. Think of the children!

I thought the whole aluminum-Alzheimer's link had been debunked ages ago...not that I particularly expect antivaxxers to be cognizant of anything that's actually correct... :rainbowlaugh:

It was near the bottom of the list and I'd been at it for a while, so when my first few searches didn't answer anything about that, I decided to be satisfied with them not being used.
