INSPIRATION MANIFESTATION
So, I loved this episode for a lot reasons. It was funny, fresh, showed us a side of both Rarity and Spike that we haven't really seen before and displayed a major character growth point for the former. Let's get down to business.
First off, let's look at the plot as a whole. It was a really fun idea. Rarity losing her will after receiving some harsh criticism and getting mopey about it. Yeah, let's be honest, we've all been there at least once. Of course, Spike hates seeing Rarity that way so he does what he thinks is best to help her, only to send her over the edge. It's a really really great concept, even from just a cartoon about friendship standpoint. Why? Because we've all been there. We've all had a friend or two we've tried to help but only made things worse, completely by accident. I know I've done that like three times, and I had to clean it up... three times. I love episodes that I can relate too.
Second off, let's take a look at what we see from Rarity in particular this episode. She's my second favorite character in the show as it stands right now (just behind Trixie) so I enjoy episodes where she actually has growth and challenges to overcome. This was a doozy of an episode in that category. She let her emotions get the best of her when the chips were down. And then, she had to rely on a close friend to get over it. Granted, her will was a bit compromised so options were limited, but the point remains the same. But then, you can throw in the mental side of it. Not only did we see just how brilliant of a mind she had when going crazy with inspiration, but even when under the influence everything she did was entirely for others, not for herself. This episode played so hard into her element of generosity and it wasn't even on the surface. This was a great episode for her.
Alright, now we've got a big one. Spike's character development in this episode was huge! Like, in my opinion, this episode is where he makes probably the most or second most mature decision he's ever made in the show. Bigger than helping a changeling, bigger than saving the Equestria Games, bigger than helping Twilight with her endless checklists.
Let me explain.
So, Spike messes up, right? Same old song and dance. But, he goes to hell and back to help her. And you can tell it wasn't just because he messed up, but because he really, genuinely cares for Rarity. There's a scene at the end where Spike and Rarity are up on a hill and she extends an offer for them to travel the world together and make everything gorgeous. You know, when you kinda dig someone and they give you a one-on-one offer like that, it can't be easy to say 'No!'. But Spike did. Why? Because he cares about Rarity and wanted to help her, regardless of what those consequences might be. Deep down, he knew that helping her was far more important than his own wants at that time, so he made a very mature decision.
Basically, this episode gave a lot of credence to how I've always viewed Spike and Rarity: Best friends who care a lot for each other. Granted, I've been known to enjoy Sparity, but as far as the show is strictly concerned, this episode was a great one for the closeness of Spike and Rarity.
That's it for this episode, guys. Only three left!

This episode was great until they threw in that 'where am I?' garbage. Trixie's an antagonist so she remembers what she did while under the influence of an ancient magical artifact. Rarity is a protagonist, so of course she doesn't remember a thing.
... wait a minute. Rarity is your second favourite character, Trixie is first, Starlight and Cloudchaser closely behind (I assume) the where does Spike stand... and more importantly, why didn't you write any Spike x Trixie gooddies?
