MLP assumes at least two parallel universes: a world of talking ponies and magic, and a world inhabited by humans. A secret portal connects them.

MLP assumes a character in one of those universes is likely to have a counterpart in the other.

Characters have somewhat silly sounding names, as you might expect in a show about magical talking ponies.
