    A personal social museum

Hey, everyone. Sorry for being so quiet lately. I've been a little tired in general, and I've wanted to take a break from fanfiction for a while, not a big break, mind you, just for a few weeks, and I've sort of been doing that, but I've also checked in most days to check comments, and nagging myself that I should write, so... it's like the worst of both worlds, not doing anything, but also not

    So very tired

One of the reasons I don't write more news like this than I do is that the latest blog post is going to be on my profile's front page and the latest news about my writing for quite a while, but I still felt like I should write something. Because... well, there seems to be some people who genuinely want to read what I write, weird as that feels to say out loud. I mean, there are a few

Sunset Shimmer at Hogwarts story mission statement

I am not feeling very eloquent today, or least not this moment, but I've decided to nonetheless try and give an update on what's going on, and why I'm writing an crossover where Sunset Shimmer ends up at Hogwarts and not something else.

So why this story and not other stuff? What gives?

    physical recovery period

okay, so, i have not been in an accident or something like, it was relatively minor operation, and it has been in the works for a while, but i got a summons on a very short notice.

so right now i am typing and using the mouse with my left hand, and i am not super enthusiastic about stuff since my right wrist hurts quite a bit, so i will be brief.

    Just a general update

You know how there's this sentiment that a lot of people don't go to the hospital even when they should?

I'm not entirely convinced about that's a valid feedback to give in general. I mean, the medical community have enough on their plate, even without pandemics, without everyone going to see a medical professional every time they have the flu, or a stomach bug, or something.

Hey, everyone. Sorry for being so quiet lately. I've been a little tired in general, and I've wanted to take a break from fanfiction for a while, not a big break, mind you, just for a few weeks, and I've sort of been doing that, but I've also checked in most days to check comments, and nagging myself that I should write, so... it's like the worst of both worlds, not doing anything, but also not relaxing and not worrying about not doing anything.

Still, I think I've managed to gather up some mental strength to write a little, which is weird because I just came down with something, probably a cold, but it seems to be laser-focused on my throat, and I wince every time I swallow. Good thing I don't type with my pharynx. Anyway, I'm gonna put some effort into actually continuing Sunset's story soon.

So now that that's out of the way, which feels nice, I've wanted to throw a question out there in general. First, some context. 7 years ago (... wow), after having read some ponyfics I liked, I shrugged and thought that hey, maybe writing something could be fun. I realized that I could finally make a story that's all about what I want it to be, and I like... well, I like cyborgs, I can make a pony cyborg story, where the cyborg is unique and special in her cyborg-ness, and came up with a backstory that kinda demanded a story in itself, and so Gabe and My Life As a Bipedal Quadruped came to be.

I never thought it would be as well-received as it was, and I'm really grateful for everyone who shared their support and kind words, which helped and encouraged me to explore a little and write other stories. Writing stories, that people like no less, has been so immensely satisfying, that I outright feel more complete as a person and... I think more context is needed. For all of you adults out there, and hey, younger people too quite possibly, remember the good old days when you were a kid? I remember days when I could get up, have breakfast, video games video games video games, lunch, video games video games, shower, dinner, video games video games, have a final meal for the day, and go to bed thinking, "Wow, what a productive day. I got tons of stuff done! I levelled up the whole party so much, and next up is Rocket Town!" I can't get into that mindset in the same way anymore. I can for short periods, but then there's something nagging me to be productive, and make money or something. These days, it's work to exhaustion, or worry to exhaustion about finding a job, and then try and relax with games or a show or something, repeat. Not a bad life, but it needed something more, and that's what writing, and reading and responding to feedback, provided.

So that's a thank you to all of you who've been kind to me these years, and... hmm, that was a long-winded way to get to my question. No more ceremony: Does anyone out there know how to preserve comment sections and such? I know I could just save the html pages, but I'd like something fancier than that. I want to preserve all the fun I've had here in amber, and keep as much as possible of things like navigation, layout, etc, so I can dig this up again many years in the future. The stories' comments, the blog, the profile page, and all that.

webarchives comes to mind. https://web.archive.org/. It's used for all sorts of purposes, and creates a link-able snapshot of a page. Outside of saving a page, this would be your best bet.

Does that allow you to turn that into a downloadable format? I know you can do that with wikis.

You can download the result like any other html page. It creates and preserves a snapshot of a page, nothing more specific than that.

Here's an example of the tool's output. The navigation bar up top allows you to browse different preserved versions of the page, if available.

I am definitely going to look into that. Thank you very much.

Edit: I misunderstood, I read it as a confirmation that the wayback machine could do what I was asking about. Oh well, I might have to do it all the hard way.

If grabbing pages using Ctrl+S is OK for you, I could try to find time time within the next few days to whip up a script to stitch them together and prune them down into an HTML file for you, more akin to what you'd get from the option to download chapters.

I also had that "cold" -- for over 2 weeks it felt like a tennis ball was in the back of my throat.
