IT IS TIME FOR BEST YAK.

    YAKS BEST AT STORIES.

EXCEPT FOR THESE AUTHORS WHO ARE NOT YAKS BUT ARE WRITING ABOUT YAKS. SO IS CLOSE ENOUGH.

    And we begin with crime

So hopping along, the next of the Young Six I'm gonna pull out is Smolder. (This time it's only semi-random: remember me mentioning semillon last week? Yeah, I'm having to actually sort this series to make sure not to feature them twice in a row.) So who am I gonna pull out first for Scoota-dragon?

It Is Recommendsday, My Dudes #164

Right. A month or so ago I mentioned that I was getting ready to launch some bigger thematic batches of stories, which is why I was trying to clear up my new authors folder. The bigger one of those was a focus series on the Student Six, which I'd planned to start as soon as a month came up with five Wednesdays.

…Yeah I was supposed to start it last week. Bother.

Followers vs. Account Age: A pointless data review: The Return

Earlier today, I was shooting the shit with Aklinstar about some of the statistics blogs I've done in the past and I noticed there was one I never did an update/follow-up on. I promptly dropped everything to do exactly that, which is because I'm deeply interested in stats and data and not at all because I'm frustrated with the way my

Author's Quarterly Update: Spring 2022 · 12:39am Apr 4th, 2022

So it's time again to do a quarterly 'State of the Author' update. Gonna obviously have to do this one in a bit of a different format.

Probably a couple of you are wondering what the heck happened to me - I'm obviously still alive, but I went from averaging more than two stories a month to zero words in the last three months. So I'll give the short-short version: unfortunately in early January, my wife suffered a pretty bad injury to her lower spine and leg. It's entirely fixable (and is being corrected, thankfully so far avoiding surgery) but she has been stuck at about 15-20% mobility. Basically, unable to stand on her own for more than maybe a minute or three at a time (and that frequently puts her out of action for the rest of the day) and unable to move around without a cane/walker. (And of course, being stuck on a walker at a relatively young age and effectively being confined to the house is not doing wonders for her mental health.) So my last couple months has been prioritizing caring for her and picking up her half of the housework. That's left pretty minimal time for writing. I can barely get out the Recommendsday posts and that's mostly thanks to a pretty thick backlog of things I want to talk about.

The good news is that as long as nothing else goes wrong with the physical therapy, she'll be back to self-sufficiency levels in another month or two. And then I'll have at least some of my time back. Until then, though, don't expect anything written from me. I kind of like her better than the lot of ya.

In the meanwhile, what time I have available is being sunk into re-building the buffer for First Hoof Account and finishing up House of Lies. All other projects (Dream A Little Dream, First Night, If You Give A Pony A Time Spell, The Good Art, Some Kind Of Hero 2 and all the others lower down on the list) are on hold until she's back on her feet and my time's back to normal.

Until then, thanks all for sticking with me in this downturn. Hopefully this will be past soon and I'll be back to posting a ton of dumb horsewords to entertain everybody.

Ah geez, that sounds awful. At least, like you said, it'll be fixable with time and care. Wishing you two well!

Obviously, your love and family come first. My heart and good vibes go out to you and yours.

I hope she's okay TCC! Take the time you need, she comes first.

really sorry to hear, Tempest. wishing both of you the best, and hope to see you back in that month or two

well hey, you are a good spouse if nothing else can be said :O glad this can be repaired though, mobility limitations really do take a toll on the psyche

I hope your wife's recovery continues well.
