Tape Deck

    Tape Deck's Mixtape: Track 17?

The band with the best-selling album of all time in the US, and the second best-selling album of all time in the entire world is the Eagles.

While not my favorite band by any means, you can tell by listening to the album in question, Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975), that the reason they sold so many copies is pretty obvious.

    Tape Deck's Mixtape: Track 15

Just a disclaimer: I'm pretty sure the song's not even supposed to be offensive.

(And this isn't a Parental Advisory warning or anything like that, but you'll see.)

Mongoloid by Devo. (From the 1978 album Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!)

    Mmmm...that drum intro...

    Tape Deck's Mixtape: Track 14

Remember CCR a few days ago?

Yeah...Deep Purple's another band that Anthropology directly introduced to me.:twilightsheepish:

<sigh> What can I say but the truth?

    About Me. (Oh Boy)

Hey there, friends and followers of mine, as well as you randos who just clicked on this page. Yes, I see you there, and I don't mind.

Heck, I made this blog post so that people can get to know me more, so you're in the right place. (It gets more interesting after my random things that I like, but I'd still like you to read those, please.)

Music Recommendations From A Guy Who Can't Escape Listening to Music. Ever. · 5:50am March 4th

If you want to know things about me other than the music I like, go here: About Me.

I like a lot of music, and MLP: FiM (fan works, specifically) actually got me started on getting more interested in it, as well as directly introducing me to some of these bands.

If you are interested, here's some artists you should check out (if you're not already familiar with them.)

Feel free to recommend stuff to me as well. It would be greatly appreciated.

(And check out my daily music blog posts if you're interested, I got the idea from Vertigo22, who runs his own series.)

  1. Custard- My favorite band, at least technically. They were the first band I was a true fan of. Indie/Alt rock from Australia. Yes,:ajbemused: the lead singer is the dad from Bluey, but I simply enjoy the music.

    (Apartment)⬆
    (Sons and Daughters)

  2. ELO/Electric Light Orchestra. (Probably my actual favorite band.) Great 70s/80s rock from Britain with the addition of, well, a string section. You've already heard Mr. Blue sky before, so here's Nightrider.

    (Dreaming of 4000)

  3. Yes. The quintessential progressive rock band. For music that can be deemed "epic", few bands can match them.

    (Yours Is No Disgrace)⬆
    (Into the Lens)
(Oh, and if you have the time, I'd recommend checking out their 18 minute song called Close To The Edge.)

  4. They Might Be Giants. Very unique and entertaining. (Alternative rock, I guess, but sometimes genre classifications elude me.)

    (Ana Ng)⬆
    (Lucky Ball and Chain)

  5. Beck. There's a good chance you've heard of his song Loser. He's all over the genre map from hip-hopesque songs to folk music. I'd recommend most of his albums, though they're practically all different.

    (Where It's At)⬆
(Blue Moon) (Case in point, this song could not be more different than the one above.)

  6. The Hives. Garage punk (according to Wikipedia) from Sweden. Absolutely fantastic.

    (Won't Be Long)⬆
(Hate To Say I Told You So)

Those are my favorite bands. I won't include any more embedded videos, for the sake of your sanity. (There may be too many already):pinkiecrazy:, but I'll list the rest of the bands that I like to listen to, along with a notable song or two for each.

In no particular order:

  1. Devo (Whip it) (Mongoloid)
  2. Steve Miller Band (Serenade) (Make the World Turn Around)
  3. The Cars (Touch and Go) (Stranger Eyes)
  4. Talking Heads (Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)) (Road to Nowhere)
  5. Barenaked Ladies (Just a name, most of their songs aren't inappropriate at all.) (The Old Apartment) (If I Had $1,000,000)
  6. Credence Clearwater Revival (Bad Moon Rising) (Lodi)
  7. Led Zeppelin (D'yer Mak'er-absolutely fantastic) (Over The Hills And Far Away) Thanks for introducing them to me, LuckySeven!
  8. King Crimson (21st Century Schizoid Man (Including "Mirrors")) (Epitaph (Including "March For No Reason" and "Tomorrow And Tomorrow"))
  9. The Beatles (Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!) Or rather, the entirety of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. (Also Nowhere Man from Rubber Soul.) I mean, I used to "hate" the Beatles, and both of those albums are fantastic.
  10. The Alan Parsons Project (Sirius/Eye in The Sky) I'm sure many will recognize this, but it's a masterpiece.
  11. The Go-Betweens (Finding You) (Bye Bye Pride)
  12. Pink Floyd (Time) (Eclipse) Actually, just listen to the entirety of The Dark Side Of The Moon.
  13. Billy Joel (The Downeaster Alexa) (We Didn't Start the Fire)
  14. The Doors (Strange Days) (People are Strange)
  15. The Traveling Wilburys (Handle With Care) (Tweeter and the Monkey Man)
  16. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard (Crumbling Castle)
  17. The Art of Noise (Beat Box (Diversion 1)) (Moments in Love)
  18. Radiohead (Let Down) (Karma Police)
  19. Better Than Ezra (King of New Orleans) (Rosealia)
  20. Jack Johnson (Flake) Also that fantastic Curious George Movie soundtrack.
  21. Deep Purple (Smoke on the Water) (Pictures of Home)
  22. Kraftwerk (Radioactivity)
  23. The Eagles (Desperado, a personal favorite) (One of These Nights)
  24. Coldplay (Square One) (Spies)
  25. The White Stripes (Fell In Love With A Girl) (The Union Forever)
  26. Imagine Dragons [really just the first two albums] (Shots) (Amsterdam)
  27. Franz Ferdinand (The Dark of The Matinée) (Come on Home)
  28. Men at Work (Who Can It Be Now?) (It's a Mistake)
  29. Jebediah (Leaving Home) (Puckdefender)
  30. "Weird Al" Yankovic (Amish Paradise) Well, I probably don't even need to talk about him, since he's been on the show.
  31. The Buggles- (The Plastic Age) I know what I said about "no more videos",:twilightsheepish: but I just have to include this masterpiece. Video Killed the Radio Star (also by them) is perfectly fine, but is no match for lyrics like "They send the heart police to put you under cardiac arrest."

  32. Honorable mentions, i.e. bands that I don't necessarily listen to that much, but have a song or two I really enjoy:
    Cake- Frank Sinatra
The Replacements- Bent Out Of Shape
Tears For Fears- Break It Down Again

I own at least one album from all of the bands I talked about in this post (except for Kraftwerk and the honorable mentions), and I will update this post as I "discover" other bands that I like.
It took a long time to get all those links in there.:ajsleepy:

To anyone who took the time to look at this, I sincerely thank you for indulging in my lengthy post. And if I introduced you to anything you liked, or we share an appreciation for any of these music groups, please tell me about it.:raritywink:

Pity I can't give an upvote to a blog post. Fair number of familiar names and some new stuff, too. Love TMBG, and on of my favorite bits of MLP art is inspired by them:

Thank you very much for you appraisal! That is some great artwork as well.
However :twilightsheepish: except for the hits (Birdhouse, Istanbul, Particle Man), I've actually yet to listen to Flood that much. I'll have to rectify that.
I do own Apollo 18, John Henry, and a collection called Then: The Earlier Years (which include their self-titled first album, Lincoln, a B-sides collection called Miscellaneous T, and some extras.)

Hee, Bare naked ladies, Elo, Coldplay....you have noice taste in beats.

5774763
No problem I love Elo and BNL!!

Top faves!

5774767
I do have an ELO group if you want to join that. It's probably not going to do much for now, but it's at least there.
It's this.

I'll keep these in mind!

5775930
That's truly what I like to see. Thanks.

5773258
Just got Flood the other day. Great stuff.

5776428
Huzzah!

I haven't listened to it in years, but one of my roommates back in my old college days had the CD

This blog is amazing and I absolutely adore your musical taste. Are you a fan of any Led Zeppelin albums?

5781005
Not yet, but they're on a list to check out. And thanks for both the follow and the comment on this blog post.

I always want people to come here...

5781610
Don’t thank me, thank the Chadian government!

I might have a strange obsession with the country of Chad for years now

5781617
Well, they share the name with internet slang, so...

I prefer the Darien Gap, myself.

5781618
I’m going to build the first road across the Darien gap all by myself. The people of Alaska deserve to be able to drive all the way to southern point of Chile/Argentina!

5781620
And while you're at it, connect the Eurafracasian whatever subcontinent to the Americas and Australia as well.

Just tax the heck out of the citizens, they won't mind.

East Germany

5781621
Why do that when you can just swim across the oceans?! Swimming to Antarctica is the most fun. I’ll tax the penguins there.

East Pakistan

5781622
East Pakistan
Bangladesh.

5781624
South Ossetia

5781759
Oh dang, I haven't even heard of that one.
Transnistria.

5781805
Another one I didn't know. Thanks.

Gibraltar

5781821
I’m going to swim across the straight of Gibraltar to Morocco and then make Princess Celestia a Chadian mercenary in front of the Moroccan king in the capital Rabat.

5781825
You can really post whatever random stuff you want to, I don't mind at all, but please please avoid sexual stuff. Can you edit that out?

Alright lol. Sorry didn’t know. I just don’t really care about saying anything when talking to random people online who are amused by it lol. Sorry for my faux pas.

There I edited it for you.

5781844
It's fine, and thanks for editing it. I just have my limits.
I don't want you to stop posting anything else though, go hog wild if you want.

The highlight of your week?!

5781876
Yes, actually. I mean, it's been enjoyable all-around, but I'm dead serious.

But what makes me different?

5781881
The indescribable quality only known as "RainbowDash2012ness."

5781885
But what if “RainbowDash2012ness” turns into a Chadian dictator

5781887
Then I will bow down with all the reverence I can muster.
<kneels>
What do you ask of me, my leige?

I ask you to conquer Cameroon and make all the people in Yaoundé the capital eat poop 3 whole days and then spin yarn into chocolate Kafka literature in Paraguay.

5781891
Order received, my master.

5781898
You must go to Evansville indiana too and swim across the Ohio river into Kentucky and then get sucked into a tornado that carries you back to Chad.

5781900
Holy crap, I go to Evansville all the time.

Ever been yourself?

5781903
Yeah, one time on a road trip just driving through on my way to Bloomington indiana where I went to college at IU. That’s a long story in itself but yeah I’ve been there once technically. I’ve driven near Evansville in southern indiana plenty though.

5781998
You're 20% cooler, since you have an RD profile picture.
