I can't say you're wrong. Can't say you're right, either. Frankly, Sugarcoat didn't get enough talking time to get a good idea of how she interacts with everyone outside of a few quips, and it's hard to keep writing quips when you need two people to go back and forth. And you know what? This is an opportunity to flesh her out and give her more character. Maybe that doesn't work for you. Maybe you're on the fence, in which case, stick around. I've got a couple more chapters to go yet.

Nightwish was considered. I wouldn't call myself a fan of any kind of metal, but I can appreciate Nightwish's talent. The specific reason why NIghtwish wasn't chosen was because while I do like the songs I've listened to, the ones I heard were too percussive and Celtic for what I wanted to use as an example. I wanted more of a focus on stringed instruments.
