This story is a sequel to Djinn Of The Everfree

Whatever you wish of me I’ll grant,
but not without its cost.
In order for something to be gained,
something must be lost.

The life of Damian Price has been complete and utter hell ever since he appeared in Equestria a month after the banishment of Nightmare Moon. Not only was he forced to take on the mantle of a Djinn, a nigh omnipotent being from Saddle Arabian myth who is bound to grant wishes, but he can't even grant the wishes as intended. Instead, he is forced by the curse he is under to twist the wishes so something is taken from the one making the wish.

For one thousand years, he has been trapped in the Castle of the Two Sisters, his curse forcing him to stay sane enough to cast spells. He lives in a bubble of frozen time, unable to see the changing of the seasons, unable to hear the wind blowing against his skin, and unable to interact with anyone unless they want to make a wish.

Then he met Celestia.

The conversation was brief, but it was one of the closest things he'd had to a proper conversation with another sapient being. He'd enjoyed it, but warned her to leave without making a wish or risk the destruction of the world from the consequences of the wish she'd had that subconsciously drew her into his prison.

A year has passed since that day, and Nightmare Moon's return is imminent. Celestia's plans for her faithful student have been altered ever since the day she learned that the Elements might be the key to breaking him out of his prison. As the time for the one thousandth Summer Sun Celebration approaches, Celestia plans for the hopeful, if temporary, release of the tortured soul she met one year ago...

...And inside his perpetual prison of night, Damian Price is none the wiser as forces from without of Equestria move to find him for their own personal agendas...

The idea for this came initially from yakopak, but I have since expanded upon the world. Rated T for the time being, but it might change to M in the future with the development of the story.

Also, if you're reading this and confused by the new names of places, I edited my first story to reflect these changes. I was using a fanmade map as a reference, but even though they said it was okay to use it as long as credit was given, I decided to make my own world instead.

This story won't be updated as much as my main story, A Cloaked Heart.

Pretty impressive the guy hasn't gone fruitloops batshit crazy after a thousand years in near-total isolation.

Though I suppose whatever magic he now possesses averts ennui-induced madness? Humans really aren't made to endure a millennium of imprisonment and loneliness.

“Pretty mare, buy a pot! No finer pot in brass or silver!”

“Sugar dates! Sugar dates and figs! Sugar dates and pistachios!”

“Would the mare like a necklace? A pretty necklace for a pretty mare.”

I see what you did there...and I approve of it greatly.

As serious as I wanna make this story I had to include it.

11294629
I’ll touch more on that later probably.

Love how fast the sequel came out! Hope to see more soon :heart:

It's only the beginning, and already there are many moving parts. Celestia meeting Damien was a Pivotal Moment.

eeeEEEEEEEHHHHHHH!!! This Is Great! I hope you release more soon! … possible in the next few hours…. Sorry and have a good day!

a prequel is a sequel that takes place before the original series chronologically

I'm looking forward to this. Whilst it shouldn't be common I hope that you don't completely avoid using the Djinns power.

It would be really interesting if after several chapters of avoiding it, only to have someone desperate enough to make a posh and handle the curse forever (and Damians inability to avoid granting it, thus having to deal with the guilt of inflicting it.) I don't know... They are about to be eaten by a Chimera and Fluttershy wishes it away harmlessly, and is seemingly unhurt only to then discover she has lost her ability to hear animals. Less of a cautionary tale about how magic comes with a price and more of a willing sacrifice.

It also raises 'the question, what happens if someone makes a wish on someone's behalf? Who bears the curse or pays the Price if Rainbow wishes Scooterloo Could fly? Is the curse shared it there are multiple benefactors? Can someone say "I wish we were all safe back home!" Would they be the only one transported the only one to pay the price?

Could the magic of Friendship help hear the weight of a curse, I wonder?

It is a all very interesting. I look forward to the outcome.

I would also highly recommend you avoid Discord if possible. The two having abilities to warp reality and pluck whatever they want out of thin air might be a bit stale after a while. Unless t turns out to run on a particularly malicious brand of Chaos Magic. Sort of undermines the whole phenomenal cosmic powers at high cost, if there is being close by that avoids such things?

the curse could be vindictive/petty, even if Scoots wish it herself. She'll either lose her parents for real or watch her sister figure loses her ability. The consequences of wishes can vary.. like say "I wish to be rich" your mom died and you got paid the insurance.

Ahh, the nostalgia. Thank you for that.

11294812
Fresh fish! We catch em, you buy em!

11296409
I'm curious. What would happen if someone wished for someone else to be rich? Or if Rainbow or one of the CMC were to wish for Scoots to have wings without Scoots knowledge or consent? Would Scoots be the one to receive the curse as well? Or would Rainbow experience the effects of the curse? Or both?

Does intent play a role? Could Celestia for example, wish for something altruistically such as "I wish Luna was happy", and knowingly accept the penalty it comes with, seeing it as a worthwhile price for the wish? Or would something horrific befall Luna as well, even though they weren't the one to make the wish? Could someone only Wish a Djinn free if they are unaware or would be hurt by taking a Djinn's place?
Say for example, Celestia Wishes Damien free of the Curse, (suspecting she will similarly be bound to take his place, as per the apparent rules of the Djinn and reasoning that she's okay with such a price, for whatever reason. Perhaps she's ready to retire, and leave Twilight to rule.) However, because she's okay with taking the Djinn's place, she instead accidentally and unknowingly binds Twilight to take the place of a Djinn because that is what would hurt her most in that moment? As it costs her her student?

If the wish can affect/curse someone only tangentially related to the Wish, could someone weaponise the wish?

Take for example, Queen Chrysalis. For the sake of argument, assume she knew enough about Djinn Lore to know it would be a terrible idea to risk making a wish themselves, or instead wished "I wish that Celestia has a long and fulfilling life." Knowing (Or at least suspecting) the wish would do something like turn Celestia to stone so she lives forever in confinement, and dodge the curse entirely because the recipient of the "Blessing" is Celestia? Or (If its only the wishmaker who is affected by the curse) could she order one of her minions to make a wish on her behalf?

Could someone make a wish on behalf of a group (For example, one of the Mane Six wishes that all of the Mane Six are safe from harm from a particular villain) Knowing that she would be cursed and/or punished for her wish, but reasoning that she's happy to have it twisted on her, so long as her friends get the full benefit of the wish? Or would they all experience some variation of the Wishes Curse, even though they didn't make the wish themselves? Alternatively, could she order a Drone to make a wish on her behalf ("I wish my Queen was Ruler of Equestria!") sacrificing the Drone, but benefiting from the WIsh anyway? Or would whether you can affect someone else by a curse be determined by your intent? Ie, if you are trying to land someone else in the Curse's splash zone, it will always affect only you - and if you are trying to take the curse for someone, they'll always be affected, regardless of what you intend. You'll always experience the most negative outcome?

Sorry if that';s convoluted. I'm probably the last person who should be trusted with a Djinn, because I'm the kind of person who'd try to circumvent the Curse somehow, and end up royally rogered by the attempt.

caused her to poor too much of her magic

im pretty sure that it was mentiond that Damian knows what the wish will be and the drawbacks before they are said and since wishing a djinn free means taking their place then its likely that if you try force someone to wish on your account it would be on you the price falls. So i guess as long as the person wishing truly wanted the wish and wasent being manipulated it would be on them

11297356 Twilight should KNOW that all curses have a magical focus! Find that and unravel the thaumatic weave and the curse breaks down!

Sheesh, some archmage she is! :twilightoops:

:trollestia:

If curses were so easy to get rid of by just waving a horn at them, they wouldn’t be the pain in the butt that they usually are. Heck, why not unicorn-zap dangerous artifacts to get rid of their worrisome side effects and make them safe for their users while we’re at it...? :derpytongue2:

So for now my forecast is that in order to permanently “free” Damian, he, Celestia, Twilight, & Co. are probably going to have to delve pretty deeply into ancient history and obscure secrets, naturally including the circumstances of how he ended up as a djinn in the first place (which is bound to be one of the first questions he’ll get asked anyway) because at least some part of the key is just about bound to be hidden somewhere in those particular events. And if it works (sometime down the road), at least most of the magic he currently commands will probably ultimately leave with the curse...after all, that does seem to be its primary source.

In any event, this has my interest. :pinkiehappy:

*gasp* You genderbent the Chupapplecabra?

11297435
Except that at this point she doesn't even believe in curses.

Nightmare Moon grinned wickedly. “I like you begging. Do it again.”

this made me laugh!!! :rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh::rainbowlaugh:

so the mare at the end of the chapter knows damian?

I wonder if he's been planning a song and dance magical number for when he is freed. I mean, it has been a long, long time with nothing better to do.

the great seedling????

Intriguing very intriguing, is our villain at the end some sorta tusdare uhhh whatever the one that kills to be close to the one they love mix. I’m very intrigued, anyways I can’t wait to see more I find myself very interested in this story. Keep up the awesome work!

11297435
Didn’t Twilight claim in the episode with Zecora that curses don’t exist, it would seem that at this stage she still has a lot to learn.

11306573 Well, this isn't THAT Equestria. What she knows is likely different.

11306577
A tusdere yandere, if that’s a real thing I don’t know I’m no big anime weeb.

>And the view was half blocked by a smiling alabaster alicorn. She held out her hoof to me. “Welcome to the real world, Damian Price.”

I feel like he needs to have a good cry at some point after this. If only out of sheer relief and wonder. Maybe over something small, like seeing a bee pollinating a flower or feeling the wind and sun on his face.

Great chapter hope he stays free but can still use his power to help

Land of Equestria shall always have a special place in my heart, no matter how many times I hear it I always tear up. One thank you for putting that song in your story and two awesome chapter and I hope to see more soon! Also would love to see how some random creatures around Equestria reacted to the song that you stated was herd all around equestira.

And it was where a specific unicorn mare stood in front of what could only be described as an altar. There were twelve stands facing the large carving of an ancient magic circle on her stone wall. Three of the stands were filled with the gemstones from the Alicorn Amulet, the long and slender crystal taken from the Staff of Sacanas after the beige mare brutally ended the pathetic Storm King’s life, and the multicolored sphere from the Griffon’s Idol of Boreas. Each was glowing very dimly with their own inner light. Nine stands remained empty, each with their own unique shape which would perfectly fit the gems to which they belonged.

The mare looked up at the magic circle and grinned when the first three inner circles began to fill with a bright green liquid aether, illuminating her own green eyes and filling the empty room with its glow.

“Three down, nine to go,” was all she said as her horn lit up with its magic. A brief flash later, all that remained of her presence was the hoofprints she had left in the dust.

I feel like this is somebody who loved the MC (maybe from his original world somehow?) and wants to free him permanently. I'm betting six of them are the elements and a seventh is the Crystal Heart, but there are a lot of options for the last two... maybe the gem from the top of the Crystal Mirror?

Thanks again M-G for another amazing chapter. It's to see Damian out of his prison. I'm curious to see how Damian will interact with the rest of the world with his OP-Please-nerf-me powers. I can't wait to get the chance to read another one of these chapters and wish you the best of luck with writing your next one. Cheers!

“My name is immaterial,” she said with a glare. “All I need is information from you.”

That's a pretty name.

I’m greatful that this is one of the stories I come back to after my short break from fimfic. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my writing magic back as well.

I bet djinn are a bit misunderstood and monstrous only to their masters and the greedy were a lil baby compared to other djinns really!

11337410
imagine if she was actually a djinn herself that he freed?

Well, this is very interesting. I am looking forward to more.

“Pretty mare, buy a pot! No finer pot in brass or silver!”

“Sugar dates! Sugar dates and figs! Sugar dates and pistachios!”

“Would the mare like a necklace? A pretty necklace for a pretty mare.”

Disney immediately prepares the lawsuit.... :twilightoops:

"I wish that Djinn were incapable of actually existing,"

And so, Alondro breaks the curse with his immense and indomitable intellect. :trollestia:
