A pony of mystery in the darkness. Or I forgot to take the lens cap off. (They/them is fine.)
The most up to date version of this contest's rules is at https://www.fimfiction.net/group/217156/portal-transformations/thread/529551/portal-transformations-contest-announcement-and-rules. Please ask your questions there.
"When Spike goes through the Mirror Portal from Equestria to CHS, he turns into a dog. What does X turn into when X goes through the Mirror Portal (or a similar portal)? You can pick X and the direction."
I think it's 95% hilarious when someone in a fimfiction.net group or a discord or other social media asks for story recommendations and they say nothing or almost nothing about what kinds of stories they even like, or what they think makes a story good or bad.
Because I know some fimfic writers read this blog, I have a question about contest scheduling.
Do you think for you personally, and for people in general, a contest that starts roughly now, and ends in early to mid February, is good timing or not?
In your answer, please say whether you write fimfics. 🙂 (I might peek at your fimfic user page to see them.)
Thank you!
Sometimes fimfic writers receive messages like
Do you do story requests?
If you hope someone might write the story you want, you have a lot of options.
- You can post the story idea in a forum of a relevant, appropriate fimfic group, and hope some writer falls in love with it.
- You can blog the idea.
- You can describe the idea in an appropriate discord server, and invite people to write a story around it.
- You can CREATE a group for the idea.
This story provides Snips and Snails a great backstory, interesting personalities, an entertaining and very convincing first person narrator character voice, and quite a fun and often funny plot.
For reference, a contest I ran earlier this year:
and the contest's winners...

So I wrote two replacements for the story's main two chapters, hit 'publish' on them, and then unpublished the former chapters.
I mean, even if you were partway through reading the story I guess the story would still largely make sense, once you allow for the fact that I changed the 'giant cockroach' to a 'giant ladybug' so I could put that major character into the cover image...
Edit/Update: The search by 'heat' doesn't treat story length in quite the same way as the Featured Box's full algorithm does, so the results are NOT entirely comparable. When I tested this initially, the Box had such a large proportion of Anon stories in it that any discrepancy in NON-ANON story results wasn't initially obvious.
Sorry!
Blog Post's Rating: T for Teen
In the official fimfiction.net discord, I saw an interesting question in #site-dev-and-help.
"Recon" asked:
If I have a long story (over 100k words) that is rated T and I have a small portion late in the story where some very M rated events take place, what's the best way to handle that?
