If anyone still wonders if I exist: here I am · 4:44pm May 25th, 2023
It's a bit of a cliché to say it, but a lot can happen in a year.
I'm not going to get into most of what has happened, because it's boring. The big announcement is that I've moved home, back up to near my parents and the rest of my family, which means no more Birmingham (and no more cheap chocolate from the cadbury factory, alas).
Or, to put it more accurately, I'm still moving home. Our place sold, but by various hijinks (that might make a funny movie) we ended up not having anywhere to buy. The original plan was to rent for a few months, but instead we've ended up living with my parents for the duration, which is... interesting. All our stuff is currently in storage, so it's been like an extended holiday, especially given we've all been steadily working our way through their booze supply, but I think everyone involved is reaching the point where they will be glad when it ends.
The extended contract I was on (actually more of a "take a big risk and hope for a big payout, oh dear it didn't work" adventure) has also ended, about a week before we were due to move. I haven't had the time to find anything new, so I'm in a jobs limbo. I've since burned down what little savings we had on various moving-related shenanigans, various legal bills, and trying to eliminate some overhanging debt so the mortgage companies would smile at us a little wider. Fingers crossed I find something.
And then the final thing, because it's not an Archonix post without something going dreadfully askew: Bon Bon has managed to get herself a rather nasty viral infection in her eyes, which has led to ulcers flaring up in one eye and then the other. She's already had surgery to repair the damage to one eye, but now we're potentially looking at more for the other eye, assuming the current treatment doesn't work. Projected price is approaching £3000. I've rationalised it to myself as simply paying what would have been the cost of insurance all at once instead of spreading it over fourteen years (my god, she's 14 years old, how did that happen?), but I have to take issue with the timing, given I have no free cash and no work.
But such is life.
(Though if you feel particularly sympathetic, you could always throw a few pennies at the tip jar.)
Always good to hear from you. Here's hoping more pleasant moments of note happen in the near future.

Man, now you say that, this is a bit of a downer post isn't it? It's fair to say that I am actually enjoying staying with my parents and it's nice to be back amongst proper northern folk again. So there's that. :)
well, congrats on existing, it's not something everyone is equally good at :B
I'm glad you're still here. I hope things look up and we see you around here more.
