So, in the previous post I said I was definitely going to get something out by the end of the month. Well, that's not going to be the case. Given the time of year, my original plan was to start putting up chapters in March and then finish with the last chapter on April 1, which seemed thematically appropriate. But I got a bit delayed. Okay, it's been long enough. Honestly, for a long time I've been in this idea where I just kind of kept putting off getting the work finished, partially with an idea that I just had to get things just right. But then I would never end up working on it. It's been nearly four years since the last chapter, time to rip this band-aid off and get the conclusion of Friendship Is Absurd out. So, a year ago I posted that Friendship Is Absurd was nearing completion. As you might have noticed, it isn't complete yet.
It's really an issue with me. I keep meaning to get to this story and finally finish it and post it. But it seems every single time I try, I think "well, hang on, let's do this other thing first" and then I don't get back to the story. Now repeat that over and over and over and over until almost a year goes by. It's annoying.
So, truth be told, for the last month or two I kind of haven't been working on Friendship Is Absurd... okay, even when I was working on it, it was at a slow pace. But I got busy and it kind of got pushed to the side.
But I'm back to working on it... hopefully. Yeah, I know this doesn't mean much, but I figured I should at least say that the story hasn't been completely abandoned. I know there are people who read this story and want to see how it ends, and I want to make sure they get it.
I know it seems my blog posts are constantly me just saying "there is another chapter coming, really!" But good news: As you might have seen in the title, the next chapter WILL be out in July--it's close enough to finished I know I'll be able to do it. It actually probably would've been out in June most likely but I made the decision of trying to play the Junethack tournament and ascend with every role. Sorry for the long wait, everyone! I finally got the new chapter of Friendship Is Absurd up! I originally wasn't planning to take it in a certain direction midway through--specifically, starting with the scene with Starlight and Sunburst--and unfortunately, that made it take a lot longer to write (I think this is the longest we've gone without an update). Not sure if it turned out as well as I wanted, but hopefully you'll enjoy it! The good news is that the next chapter looks like it won't take
Well, it's been 2 months since the last chapter went up, so I figure I might as well give confirmation that the story is still being worked on. The next chapter is taking a while because I've been busy with a number of things, plus I've had a few difficulties with the chapter itself that's stalling progress a bit. I'm just writing this because I want to reassure you that a new chapter will be coming.
Well, I hope my little April Fool joke didn't annoy people too much; it did look like some people were actually a bit worried about it being the actual conclusion of the story (I would've put up Part 2 earlier but I was busy this morning). I wonder if maybe it could've used a little more polishing, particularly in Sunset's little rant towards the end (there were actually a few last-minute adjustments I made), but I figured everyone had waited long enough and didn't want to delay it any more.
Well, the new chapter of Friendship Is Absurd is finally up (although this post is late, I meant to put it up the same day but forgot). Even by the usual standards of this story, this was pretty crazy. So much of it taking place during a dream let me go pretty wild, including goofy stuff like Trixie complaining about incorrect formatting. It's not fourth wall breaking if it's in a dream!
A few notes:
Sorry for the wait, but "The Lost And Found Treasure of Griffonstone" is here! (although, admittedly, it's nowhere near as much as a wait as a few previous chapters have been) The annoying thing is, the chapter was actually 95% complete for quite a while, but I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to put in that final part (specifically, the part after Trixie's final line). The good news is that during that time period I was working on the next chapter, so hopefully it won't take as long to
I've been wanting to make a blog post mentioning that yes, I am still working on Friendship Is Absurd, and in fact the next chapter will hopefully be up soon...ish. But it felt odd to make a blog post just saying that, especially because it's been "only" a month and a half since the last chapter. I do try to write at least a little every single day (even if it's just a sentence), so I'm always making some kind of progress, no matter how small.
I'm nearing completion on the next part of Friendship Is Absurd, namely the Rainbow Rocks spoof (I estimate I'm about 90% complete with it, so it will hopefully be up sometime in the next two weeks). Much like the first Equestria Girls parody, this is going to be its own story, so if you want to know immediately when it's up, you might want to follow me (as tracking the main story won't update you on this). Feel free to un-follow after the story is put up.
The latest chapter of Friendship Is Absurd ("Tirek's Kingdom") is finally up, and it's official now: This is the biggest chapter of the series, even if you count Equestrian Gals as a chapter, which is a big reason it took so long to complete. I hope you enjoy it!
