I'm a painter. Well, used to be until I moved in with my husband in Canterlot. Painting wasn't enough to cover the cost of living here, so I got a different job and gave up painting. Until a mysterious old mare noticed me and commissioned a piece from me...

Well, where to start? This trope of a person doing a job they hate, only to have their eyes opened to their dream by someone else, has surely been done before. However, the fact this isn’t one hundred percent original changes nothing about the fact how many people had to go—or maybe are still going—through such a hard life. Simply a very truthful story and one very well done at that. Shivers ran down my spine while I was reading this and tears threatened to spill out my eyes during the ending. Thank you for this lovely read!

PS: Since the time during which the story takes place is never stated, and thus it could as well be happening in the future, is it possible that New Light was a member of the CMC?

I'm honored to get a reaction like that. In short, no, not a member of the CMC, but a different pony who had been doing what they do. At first, my idea was simply to have a blind mare commission a painting, but I couldn't think of a good reason other than that she wants to help a struggling artist or something. That evolved into her doing it as a cutie mark related problem, and I wanted to explore the idea of non-CMC ponies doing essentially what they do. I briefly considered making her one of them aged up, but in the end I decided to make her an OC who happened to basically do the same thing as them, in helping with cutie mark problems. As for the time it takes place, since Fine Line is a background character from the show, I would say present time. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it a lot. I am glad you enjoyed this story.

You are very welcome. It is actually nice to see the CMC are not the only ones doing such a thing. After all, there might be many ponies with cutie mark problems, so it is great to read about the “background” ponies helping each other and solving the problems without any of the main cast interfering

Good story. Now if you'd excuse me, I will go to my room and cry for the next three hours.

I am glad you liked it. I actually kind of forgot I had written this story. It's nice to see someone enjoying it. Thank you for reading.

Been so many years since I've posted a comment but just know. This is a great story for artists to read. I may be just a writer, but the feeling is there. That moment of appreciation that everybody needs to remember what they love most. Good job. Simple and captivating.
