If there weren’t already enough reasons this year to write a story about apocalyptic visions of a world consumed by darkness, the award of the Nobel Prize in Physics to Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel, and Andrea Ghez gave me the excuse to write something about black holes. It took me a few weeks to finish it, but I am pleased to have got it done ready for Nightmare Night.
So, in typical fashion, I'm late with this. I've been dealing with some family events and preparation leading up to my birthday on January 15th. Also, I've now fallen down the DnD podcast rabbit hole once again and got really into Ken Ashcorp, particularly the song he made for Nyanners. And I've been catching up with an old friend, getting really into witchy business (starting slow, nothing too wild, but I have a pendulum now, she is a black obsidian and her name is Void). About that big discovery last week.
This is one which we have been expecting for some time. I first read about the LIGO experiment some twenty years ago when it had just started construction and I was a young student dreaming about doing a summer placement in California—which turned out to be just a dream, but it was fun perusing the lists of student projects on offer at Caltech.

Mel Waters lived in a town which was home to a strange, bottomless pit. The local people would throw their garbage in it (and had been doing so for more than fifty years), but no one ever heard the garbage hitting the bottom of it. Mel eventually came in possession of the land where the hole was located. He did a bunch of tests on it to see if he could find out how deep the hole was. But no matter how many tests he ran, he could never figure out how deep the hole was. The story gets strange
