Second Thoughts: Shadow Play, or, the Grand Unified Theory of Star Swirl the Bearded. · 12:43pm Oct 31st, 2017
Goodness gracious me, where do I start? This is going to be a long one.
Goodness gracious me, where do I start? This is going to be a long one.
Four years and four months after I posted the first chapter, I have officially listed The Education of Clover the Clever as complete.
This is it, guys. This is, legit, the last piece of story I will be posting in The Education of Clover the Clever. The story has updated one last time with a story of Canterlot High, and one particular teacher who roams the halls while nobody quite understands why he's there.
I have now officially listed the story as Complete.
There will be a final story notes blog, once I get around to writing that. And there will always be other things besides.
The epilogue is now out!
At the end of everything, two ponies sit down and have a long talk about what it all means.
We have crossed the finish line. Clover has earned her laurels, Star Swirl has been immaculately himself, and two very special little ponies have learned a great deal from one another.
I will be writing a story notes blog for Clover's Odyssey sometime soon. For now, go and read.
The final chapter, and in many ways the grandest chapter of the entire story, is now up.
I pored over these chapters for months. It grew from an idea of maybe six thousand words to a storyline of over 31 thousand. And now that it's going up... I find it very difficult to think of anything to say.
It's been a long trip.
The epilogue will go up in a few days. And that will be the end of the story.
The next chapter is now up and ready to be read. Clover's voyage continues, across the endless sky.
This is the penultimate chapter. There is one chapter left, plus an epilogue that will be posted separately.
...I still can't quite wrap my head around the fact that this is really happening
We come to it at last.
The Education of Clover the Clever is nearly done. Clover's Odyssey is ready for publication. The first chapter will be up when you see this blog post, and the next installments will be released one by one over the next week. I think it is everything my readers have come to expect from this story, and more, and I hope you all enjoy it.
I did it, guys I reached the end of it.
I mean, it's not going to be published tonight, or tomorrow. But I finished the most intensive and invasive round of edits. The third and likely final draft edits will be light and swift by comparison. Well, I certainly hope it will, considering that this round took me two and a half months. And yes, because of my obsessive file management system I know the exact date.
"This is... utterly horrifying," Star Swirl the Bearded said, examining the branches growing from the pony's face. "The disease is progressively altering his entire biothaumic field. As far as the laws of magic are concerned, he is no longer a pony."
The wizard lit his horn and enveloped the patient in his aura. It glowed brighter than Clover had ever seen it do during a medical consultation, and she gasped when she saw a drop of sweat trickle down the old stallion's brow.
I am still doing this.
It is going very slowly, but it is going.
I finished second draft-ing another scene today.
The total word count is currently 26.4k words.
Slightly more than two thirds of that is now second draft.
The word count will still continue to grow as I edit each remaining scene.
That is all.
I keep saying how many chapters are left, and I keep being wrong.
A few days ago I finally finished the first draft of the final chapter. As it crossed the finish line it stood at a staggering 22k words. And yes, it's still likely to continue growing as I edit it.
Four years ago today I posted the first chapter of my first story on FIMFiction. It's been quite a wild four years, and both Clover and Star Swirl have been with me through it all. And they still are.
In one week is the 14th of July, the date when I posted the first chapter of Clover, the first thing I posted on FIMFiction. I've been working on this story, on and off, for four years.
Would you believe me if I told you I'm actually making genuine progress? I really am. I got the bones of the story down until the very end, and am now working on fitting those bones together into skeleton sections and fleshing them out and... Basically my writing process has turned into a form of necromancy.
It's here at last. In a proper quality release, that is.
So, this morning my desktop computer died. I don't think it has anything to do with the malware that decimated the NHS yesterday before moving out across the globe. I think it was a regular old hardware failure. I haven't opened it up and looked inside yet, being deathly afraid of the innards of computers, but I have a friend who helps me with these things and who will be stopping by tomorrow. Thankfully I
The last day dawns. The penultimate chapter of The Education of Clover the Clever is now up.
It's been a long road, guys. And we're not quite at the finish line yet. But you can see it from here.
And at the end of the school year, it's time to show what you've learned.
The Education of Clover the Clever, Chapter 17: Exam Day.
Or, Star Swirl vs Cambridle, Round 2.
It's been a long time coming.
Hi guys, I'm still here. I have been taking it easy in the time since my surgery... perhaps too easy. Turns out I underestimated how much even minor surgery can knock you out, and I've been completely useless ever since.
So, a few days ago Discovery Family let slip that the new season is scheduled to begin airing in April. That gives me around two months, a few weeks more or a little less, to try to get the next chapter out before new material comes in and takes the spotlight.
I think I have a pretty good chance of making that
To all fans of Clover and Star Swirl: please go check out "The One That Shot Away", a story of Star Swirl and the Sirens by the always entertaining FanOfMostEverything, which features a Star Swirl and Clover that might just seem familiar
I was fortunate to get to read it before publication, and I enjoyed it greatly. Please give it a read
