Tonight begins the first installment of KSP: Rule of 7, in which I build rockets to attempt to complete as many missions simultaneously as possible!

... if you're building a rover to go to another planet, TEST IT ON THE GROUND FIRST.

90% of my problems would have been solved if I'd built the rover in the hangar instead of the VAB and taken it tootling around the space center before sticking it on top of an overpowered rocket.

Specifically, tomorrow evening (Monday 9-9), beginning 7 PM, at which point I believe I will fly a CSP mission which will get at most a paragraph in the next chapter, just to finish the temperature scans that didn't happen in Mission 22. That will run from building a rocket from scratch to as many "simulated" launches as necessary (read: revert to VAB if the design proves bad) to landing a rocket-rover on Minmus.

Several of you have pointed my attention to the trailer for Kerbal Space Program 2. It was the final straw, so to speak, in getting me to buy a gaming-optimized laptop- the cheapest I could get, mind you, but it still set me back over seven hundred bucks.

And I just now tested out streaming with it... and, well, it's grainy, since 1 MB outbound is all the bandwidth I'll ever have, but the framerate is actually decent.

The first draft of Chapter 15 of Changeling Space Program is complete, at 28,522 words. Unless I do a considerable bit of trimming, that makes it the longest chapter to date. (Which is fair, since it's the longest mission to date.)

Editing will be done over the weekend while I'm at San Japan, and the chapter will go up sometime after Labor Day.

After that it's back to work on that RPG project, prepping Peter is the Wolf Book 2 (FINALLY) for print, and then back to Haycartes'.

First: Changeling Space Program's next chapter is currently over 23,000 words. I'll need to do a lot of editing before posting, but there's a good chance that shortly after Labor Day it'll hit the site. Well, today the service guy for the phone co-op came out and verified it: my modem needs replacing. That will get done tomorrow, when I go deposit money, pay bills, buy groceries, etc.

Next week I'll make one final attempt at streaming KSP gameplay. If it doesn't work, then I'll just record video and post it.

And, well, it's no good.

My connection still tests at 500 kbps or less. My best tweak of the settings still delivers massive buffering and frame losses.

And my phone co-op tells me that I can get an account as fast as 25 mbps download... but 1 mbps upload is still the maximum.

I'll talk with them tomorrow, but I suspect live video streaming is not going to be a thing for me.

The computer ran all right- about the same as it would without the streaming software installed. (The freeware suggested in the last blog post was a quick download and install, and it seems very easy to use so far.) The sound is, well, crap, because I was using a USB gamer headset mike.

But the big problem is bandwidth. I don't have even close to enough.

In those five sessions, I've written 12,542 first-draft words.

Two sequences to go, and the chapter will be done, and I can begin editing.

... well, not on the heartbeat thing, except that I felt terrible yesterday and, at the moment, feel pretty good. Hopefully I have more like now and less like yesterday until I get that ultrasound.

But no, what I mean is: yesterday I sat down with KSP and finally flew CSP Mission 21, aka "Dragonfly's Glory."

It was, without a doubt, the most challenging mission I've flown specifically for the CSP story.
