    Next Season Anime First Look

Here’s a quick preview of what I’m planning to watch next season, starting in about a month.

No Longer Allowed In Another World
A novelist in the 1940s attempts to commit suicide with his girlfriend, but they get isekai'd.  The guy sets out to find her so they can continue to double suicide.
An adventure dark comedy.  I liked the manga, even if it was slightly a harem.

the anime blog before the preview of the following season blog

I’ll be back next time with a preview of shows in the upcoming season.

    Tonari no Youkai-san

Boy, this show really goes hard on both the straightfaced absurdity and feels.  The craziest things are commonplace in this world.
    "You have pretty eyes."
"Oh yeah, my grandfather was a banana."

It's quite rare that I get a season that is already so defined right out of the gate. I don't think any of the shows have gone up or down the rankings since the beginning.

Train to the End of the World

Equal parts cute girls doing cute things, surreal worldbuilding, comedy, and horror.

    What Happened to Amelia Earhart?

I recently did a deep dive on Earhart's disappearance as research for a story, and figured I would share it here.

As usual, I'll do my best to delineate facts from opinions.

    Bottom line up front:

It's quite rare that I get a season that is already so defined right out of the gate. I don't think any of the shows have gone up or down the rankings since the beginning.

Train to the End of the World

Always a romp. Manages to be different every episode, yet maintains the story continuity. At this rate, though, I'm fearing we might not have an ending this season.
Since this episode was willing to license Sega, I was hoping but disappointed that they didn't get any Bloodhound Gang.

Tonari no Youkai-san

The problem with supernatural settings that have vague rules is you’re never sure how serious anything is.  Like in this episode, does the disappearance of a person imply they ded, that they were always inhuman, or is it simply set dressing?

Delicious in Dungeon

This show is definitely more about the journey than the destination.  Some might even say slow.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc

It’s back.  If you watched the last four(?) seasons, this is more of it.
First episode is double length.  I figure the training arc won’t be as entertaining by comparison as previously, but at least we get to see more Nezuko.  There are supposedly going to be seven-ish episodes in this abbreviated season.

The Fable

I wouldn’t have expected that a burglary pervert and a hint of romance would have turned the plot around, but at least things are happening now.
But boy, if this is the sixth episode we have a ways to go.

Mysterious Disappearances
I skimmed the fifth episode and then let it go from my watch rotation.  There were a lot of things this show could have been, but ultimately I can’t help but compare it to shows that are better.  Maybe I’ll try out the manga again.

And now down into the manga.

List organized in rough order of my most to least favorite.

Below are those manga that I recommend.

no strong recs this week

Below are those manga that I conditionally recommend.

Finding Family

Two catboys adopt a dog.
How soon did I know this was porn?  This is a screencap of the second page.  Just look at it.
I mean, it's mostly about a gay couple going through the child adoption process, but yeah, it's also porn.  If it was more of a comedy instead of a feels fest, I might even have given it a full recommendation.  Because I know someone will ask, the kid was totally uninvolved/unaware of the sex as of chapter four when I stopped reading.

3-Gumi No Osananajimi

Short stories about childhood friends.
A rare three-shot, though each chapter is different.  Not bad romance, but too short.

The Girl I Became Friends With After Lending Each Other H Books

Title is plot summary.
One page per chapter.  Lewd but not exactly ecchi.  Hoping it'll develop actual romance.

Below are those manga that I do not recommend.

The Big Bees

Title is plot summary.
Cute, I guess, but almost entirely devoid of substance.

One Day A Message Window Appeared Out Of Nowhere!?

The protagonist gets some meta powers.
Not many chapters yet, but this has been done better elsewhere.

Agasa-Kun Wa Yande Iru

A guy guilts a girl into dating by saying the alternative is double suicide.
I read to the end of the first chapter expecting there to be a twist, but no, it's just an unhealthy relationship.

Happy Kanako's Killer Life is getting a live action adaptation.

The first ep of The Fable was just kind of dull. Is there something there worth hanging in for?

I like the character dynamics and occasional humor. There isn't much actually going on with the plot, though.

The latest Fable ep finally had something interesting develop. I have a bad feeling it'll get resolved too quickly to matter though.

Train threw in a largely funny encounter just when they needed a change of pace, as all the rest had been more ominous. This one even started out that way, but quickly changed. On the downside, this episode takes it out of bounds on what I'd recommend for the family to watch, but I still liked it.

Disappearances is... okay, I'll say it. The most prominent mysterious disappearance is where the plot went. There's a really cool premise set up, and they've barely done anything with it.

Looking forward to starting Demon Slayer once they dub it, but I was disappointed in how they ended last season with respect to Nezuko. It remains to be seen whether that was a necessary development for her, but it also reeked of plot convenience for it to happen then and there. I also have to roll my eyes at how she grows bustier when goes into her more demonic range. The same thing happening to Chibiusa when she got corrupted in Sailor Moon R got the same eye roll, even more so because she felt compelled to comment on it.

Oh, and Train rather had some fridge horror in this episode. Presumably they have it in the backs of their minds that if they can undo the 7G fiasco, they can reverse all the weirdness and turn people everywhere back to normal. But in this town, they've just killed a large number of people. It confused me at first that they draw the zombie queen with fangs. I get that's usually a way of making someone look mischievous, but that's usually a single fang, and giving her two implied she would turn out to be a vampire or something.

Yeah, definitely the least-threatening zombie episode I've ever seen in anime. Even when fighting, nobody seemed in serious danger.

As for killing people, while this was directly due to the protagonists' actions, a lot of people have already died or are on limited time.
