Regarding Sibling Rivalry · 11:04pm Aug 25th, 2013
I recently wrote a review of the Avengers, which will be posted by noontime Monday on my website. And I opened it thusly:
Sometimes, you have to know what you’re doing. Where you’re going. What your purpose is.
I never quite understood this until recently.
A matter of days ago, while writing the next chapter of Sibling Rivalry, I came to a startling realization: Knowing what I know now, I could have structured the story a lot better by rewriting everything after chapter three, delaying the actual romance between Spike and Sweetie Belle, and have his affection for her form a bit more gradually as a consequence of their budding friendship, as he teaches her magic. It would allow the story to focus on the romance, rather than the bullshit deception.
So I’m an idiot. I think I might go back and rewrite the whole story with that in mind. Or I could just say ‘fuck it’ and move on at this stage.
I don’t know.
I think the problem is, I didn’t think the story through well enough. I didn’t think it through deeply enough. I should’ve seen the plot holes before they came. But it really goes to show just how important preparation is. How important it is to plan a story out well in advance. As a writer, you might find it frustrating, not getting to the good bits. But overall, it’ll mean the story you write will be better, and much more coherent.
Which might be the reason Marvel made it work. They thought it through, and planned it all out from day one. ...
That's all I have to say for now. Thoughts?
Rewrite it if you think you can do better now, I would enjoy that .
Or just move on to another Story, don't force yourself to end this Story for your Readers alone . That can only turn into shit .
Do you want to do that rewrite?
If so... Then do it :D
I'm with JetStream. If you want to do the re-write and you feel that you would get more satisfaction from the story if it became what you really wanted it to be from the beginning, then go for it. I would be happy to go back and re-read the chapters.
Either way, I'm glad to see you haven't given up on the story. It's a good one.
I really like your story and from my experience you need to do what makes you happy. Your readers who really like your story will stick around
If you are not happy with the story and want to rewrite it, do it. But only if you want it. Don't force yourself!
It's been said, but it never hurts to reinforce.
The writer must do what they want for how they think best. Never force yourself to do anything, whether that's carry on this tack or start all over again, or indeed even finish.
Follow your heart....
i just finished reading sibling rivalry and i like it how it is (i hope i didnt just read the edited version) but yeah you might not have planned out the story from the begining so there are plot holes but if u look hard enuff u will find them everywhere (like in the avengers movie how all the robots die phatom menace style or how hulk got the motorcycle) youwrote it like a train wreck its all happeneing so quick u cant look away from the horror. and once i slow down on my OMFG THIS WEBSITE HAS SO MANY GOOD STORIES i will probably come back and reread that one and then move onto the wrest BECAUSE i liked it that much and i want to see what else u can do.
