So! The poll results are in! People want to see what Applejack and/or the CMC get up to with that magic.
The question now is, should I just continue A Dangerous Sparkle, or should I make a new fic?
I kinda like the idea of continuing because I like big numbers and the wordcount can press ever higher, and it wouldn't even be a narrative disconnect much, just switching focus primarily to AJ and foals.
On the other hoof, it is a new plot...

Well, looks like the polls have spoken... can't say I'm 100% happy with it, but hey the one story I really wanted to see is still in the top 4.
Hm... well it should probably be a new story, because the cast has changed from Twilight + people revolving around her, to AJ + people revolving around her. And it seems like a larger change to the cast and focus of the story than previously, where before it was clearly Twilight goes on adventures, and she just had new adventures (although you could have had a series of shorter stories the whole time: Twilight and Co retrieve a magical tome. Twilight and Co fight the elementals at home. Twilight goes to get revived. Twilight and Co meets a suspicious character.)
But, on the other hand, like I said, there have already been several sub adventures, and this new story is just a bigger departure, but probably a new adventure, so if you really want it to be just a serial starring anyone in that universe, you could keep going.
My vote is new story.

I wanted to see the fallout from Spike's transformation back. I guess what won was high up on my list of unresolved Dangerous Sparkle problems, though. And it looks like the other one on my list (what happened to Long Road) might be tied with Spike's fallout, although I can't 100% read it from the screenshot, and am guessing.
And... yeah I don't think I can complain too much given that I didn't give money to actually vote. I'll still bother you with my desires though! Just Not Expecting Anything From It.
2968274 I have no issue being poked and prodded. It makes me feel loved. And yes, it did tie with Spike. Not to say we can't explore those other threads, possibly even during the story, but the focus will be on AJ + Friends, not anypony else.
Well, this is what I get for not participating in Patreons. Mind you, my lack of disposable income plays a big part in that.
In any case, while I'd normally be all far continuing A Dangerous Sparkle rather than creating a sequel, it depends on how much the focus will be on the new magicians. If that's the only plot thread that's going to explored, I recommend making the sequel. If the other topics are also going to be explored, then continue the current story.

Well, to be fair, unless you go full slice-of-life and ratchet up the drama more, there probably is less story with Spike and Mane's relationship than whatever potentially expansive adventure that AJ, presumably her family, and the CMC get into.
It's a less... expansive conflict, but more intricate, most likely. Not that there couldn't be a tangent due to Spike doing something drastic, though. It might be a bit harder to work into the background of another story, but I'm not going to say impossible to write satisfyingly, because it's not.
Long Road, if AJ and Co wind up outside of town, could be a person who simply... shows up, though.
The way I see it, there are two ways a CMC focus could go:
1. Typical CMC comedy hijinks. They recklessly try everything and funny disaster is the name of the game.
2. If the CMC learn some non-standard magic, they would theoretically be able to solve some real problems.
It would be somewhat delicate to do a serious adventure arc with the CMC without making it dark, but it could be really interesting and different. Since Twilight expanding the Everglow lore got a close second, you could use the CMC's inherent curiosity to justify some of that as well.
To actually answer your question, if you make this a new story that mostly focuses on different characters, you still have the option of continuing Dangerous Sparkle later (if you think of more you want to do in that one). Making this one a new story would be a good way to keep your options open.
