Iron Author 2016 Winners · 6:30am May 25th, 2016
Hi Everyone, Xepher here. As most of you know, Everfree Northwest took place almost two weeks ago, and we had a fantastic convention. Part of that was the Iron Author contest, where victims contestants were challenged to plan, write, and (if possessing superhuman skill) edit a story in exactly two hours. Entries had to include all three of this year's prompt items: Food, Future, and Facsimile.
We had around 30 entries this year, and those can all be viewed/read on the contest site for at least the next month. I want to congratulate everyone who participated, both for putting up with our technical difficulties, and for completing anything at all in such a short time. This really is meant to be an "impossible" deadline, and I'm always amazed at the level of quality that participants manage every year.
That said, it's still a contest, so we have to have some winners. All judging was done in under 24 hours during the convention itself, by myself, the rest of the EFNW Writing Track staff, and a panel of guest judges and volunteers. All of them have my eternal gratitude for helping make this possible at all, as we made sure every story was read a minimum of three different times by three different judges, who were assigned stories randomly and anonymously. We also gave out prizes and read the winning stories out loud the day after the contest. For those that didn't attend though, I'll repeat the results below.
3rd Place
Iron Kite
by deltasierra
Deltasierra selected a prize package which included an EFNW 2015 poster signed by Tabitha St. Germain, an EFNW exclusive cover of the MLP IDW comic from 2015, signed by the cover artist, Dana Simpson, an extra poster from Discovery Family for MLP, and a mystery vinyl figurine.
2nd Place
The Ice Cream Dilemma
by chapien
Chapien selected a prize package which included a $20 Amazon gift card, donated by one of our online contest winners, Lise Eclaire, and an "IAMCardboard" VR viewer for android phones.
2016 Iron Author Champion
Star Trot is not Scientifically Accurate
by Silvercloud
Silvercloud recived the remaining prize package, an assortment of MLP magnets, valentines and other cards, gift bag, mystery vinyl figurines, and two wooden coasters engraved with the cutie marks of Luna and Celestia, created and donated by Ruirik.
Congratulations to you all!
This is likely to be our last post for the next few months as we move into offseason. Look for us to return next fall though, as we begin our ramp up to EFNW 2017!
Thanks!

Congratulations to the winners! I had fun being a guest judge. Looking forward to next year already.
Huzzah! Glad to see them announced on FIMFiction.
I loved being a judge for this, and I was honestly impressed by how well done many of the entries were. Cannot wait to tear apart the hopes and dreams of con-goers again next year
