Notes, Upcoming Attractions and WRITING CONTEST · 2:27am Oct 27th, 2016
So, first off: I just want to apologize for my ill-temper and bad attitude for the last few weeks. I've been in a less than good place for a while, but that's no excuse. Seeing someone else go further down that path helped me pull back a bit. So I'm gonna try to keep my attitude and my opinions on a more even keel. I'm not disavowing said opinions, but I will watch how I respond to criticisms of them and keep it respectful.
That unpleasantness out of the way, I have some bad news for me that translates into potential good news for you! Being a bit of an impulse buyer, I bought a full three-day pass to New York PonyCon on 27-29 January 2017--which is ironically being held at the Ocean Beach Spa and Resort in New Jersey. Wrap your head around that one. After I bought it, I realized that I needed to conserve my finances and really can't afford to rent a room for three or four nights and all that, not if I want to make BronyCon and (hopefully) get a new place this year. So I won't be going to PonyCon.
Apparently unable to get a refund, I learned that I could transfer my ticket to someone else. So let's make it a little interesting: who's up for a writing contest? For a free ticket to PonyCon (please note that you're responsible for booking and paying for your own transportation and lodging, it is JUST for the three-day pass), write up a story for Dashverse.
I've never done one of these before, so this will be a learning experience for all of us.
Because this is a bit late in the day, I can't have the contest be open too long--I'd hate for someone to win the ticket, and then struggle to find a place to stay in New Jersey. So, tentatively, the closing date for submissions will be November 20. This probably means that most of the submissions will be on the shorter side of things, but that's fine. Of course, anyone participating is free to try to write something with multiple chapters. As an incentive to those of you who aren't going or already have tickets, the second place winner will receive $50. I would like this pass not to go to waste, so I do hope it someone trying to get to NY PonyCon participates in this.
Rules are pretty basic: no gore, snuff, fetish or clop stories. Shipping is discouraged for the Mane characters, but otherwise go for it. I make no promises that the fan-submitted stories will be considered cannonical, so don't get upset if I write something later that contradicts it. At the end I'll announce the winner and second-place winner and hopefully set up a Dashverse group to host the stories. The winner will be contacted and the ticket transferred to them.
In other news, I have a new chapter of "Diamond and Rough" almost ready for submission so expect that soon, and I wrote a guest story for my friend Chengar Qordath's "Tales of the Phoenix Empire" (whose stuff you should be reading anyway) so expect a link to that to appear shortly.
