MLP Movie · 12:58am Oct 9th, 2017
Well, I've seen the new My Little Pony Movie now. Plenty of other people have done more in depth reviews, so I don't have too much to say about it that hasn't already been said. That being said, here's my brief thoughts. Some minor spoilers ahead.
The "I'm a brony and will probably like anything dealing with ponies" score: 9/10.
Why? Because its the Mane 6 in a big-screen epic adventure, the animation is gorgeous, and the soundtrack is enjoyable. The ponies feel like themselves, the group dynamic is enjoyable, and there are enough comedic moments mixed in with the more serious ones. The Storm King was an enjoyable villain whose whiplash shifts from whimsical to diabolical was actually really engaging. Also, the worldbuilding.
The "Purely Objective" score: 6.5/10.
Why? The plot is generic and predictable, it has some pacing issues, and is basically enjoyable without being groundbreaking in any way. I found Tempest's backstory to be bland and her conversion to friendship obvious and kind of forced. The Princesses who aren't Twilight are useless again and apparently the entire Royal Guard is nowhere to be found during a major public event.
Bottom line is, go see it. Don't have too-high expectations, turn your inner critic off, and enjoy 90 minutes of big-budget pony.
Its pretty much a regular MLP episode , just on the big screen.
And im fine with that.

That's pretty much the best way to describe it. Being a movie, I was hoping for a little more, but I still liked it for what it was.
