State of the Writer: May 2024!

    Didn't write nothing! clapping emoji!

My surgery was on the 22nd, and it went well, I'm still in recovery for technically the next week and a half or so, but as of this week I'm already feeling back to normal. Which I have to keep reminding myself I am not, lest I overdo something and hurt myself. <_< I am at least following the discharge instructions, so no worries about that.

    PP vs. What I've Become

Knight Breeze's What I've Become might not be a name you've heard before, but given its stats, especially the over 60,000 views, I feel safe calling it a fandom classic. :) Major spoilers ahead for a ten-year-old story!

Fic recs, May 20th: Project Get! #17!

Hey! :D Welcome back to Project Get!, where I sort my RIL by views and grab the last 10 on the list that aren't sequels, unfinished, or by the same author twice! I've been trying to do this a lot more frequently, but 'frequent' has not exactly described these blogs out of me, has it? D: I dunno if that could change in the near future. I've got outpatient surgery on Wednesday this week, so I'm

New story: Dear Success! · 8:25pm Nov 30th, 2019

So there's a story behind this story.

Last month, I had a meeting with my therapist. And she brought up the notion that I don't give myself a lot of credit. I focus on the negative, and thus never see the positive.

Since I like writing, I ought to write down the positive things that I do. My successes, as it were. And I thought, yeah, okay, I'll try that.

Maybe I could do it as ponyfic.

It took me a while. I couldn't come up with a title. I wasn't sure what events were worth writing about. I really do have a hard time noticing my own success. But, given enough time, I came up with Dear Success and the framing story (literally just a weak scaffold to hang journal entries on), and now here we are.

A few things about this story.

First of all, like I say in the description, it really is about me. I'm trying to match situations to show characters, but how well they line up will always be second in terms of priority to just telling the story. Granted, I'm also taking some liberties -- the second entry features a long story about a sleepover, farm work and driving a truck, none of which actually happened -- but the meat of each entry will be based in fact.

I'm not going to repeat characters. I'm not going to use author's notes. I'm not putting my name and the title at the top of each chapter, in the name of something like verisimilitude. I may not even respond to comments. I had actually considered turning them off, ratings too, but I think I'd like people to actually, y'know, read this, even if it's not something I'm going to be focused on necessarily. I mean, there's no sense of "I need to get the next chapter out"; this is chronicling real life, not making up a tale.

Anyway, I hope anyone finds they enjoy it. Maybe it will inspire others to look at themselves in a more positive light? Might be too much to ask, but it's all I can hope for.

(Also I just realized this is my 88th story and 8 is my favorite number so obviously this was a good idea. :D)

Boy do I know that feeling. Um, all of them.

I don't know if you ever read What Cats Know (and I promise I'm not just shilling), but it has some similarities that struck me now, about using stories to do feelings, inspired by a real event, and also Sweetie Belle has a fluffy cat so

Keep at it! The first three entries were cute.

Whether it inspires other people or not, I hope writing it helps you!

Also I just realized this is my 88th story and 8 is my favorite number

If you were Chinese, this would be a harbinger of great success for the story.
