“You need to stop fidgeting,” the purple-scaled dragon rumbled from his place on the other side of the room from the pacing pony.

“But it’s been days!” his comrade shot back, throwing her hoof wide in exasperation. Her large, feathery wings ruffled against her side in a sign of her impatience. She then turned and gestured at the other side of the chamber. “And they still haven’t woken up, yet!”

The dragon followed her gesture. At the back of the room was a small mountain of pillows, the finest in the entire city, all of which had been propped up to provide a large, comfortable bed for six ponies. Each one was haphazardly sprawled across the cushions, having tossed and turned by the hour. A few of them were mumbling in their sleep, while the others remained mercifully quiet.

Not one of them had awoken, however.

He sighed and turned back to his companion. “I understand. Really, I do. But you have to remember what they went through. They’ve been gone for a long time. And we’ve waited for just as long. We can afford to wait a little while longer.”

“How are you so calm about this?!” the pony demanded, turning back to him with an indignant pout. “I would have thought you’d be just as eager as I am!”

“I am,” he deadpanned. “Unlike you, I simply spent some time to teach myself how to control my enthusiasm. I could teach you if you’d like.”

She puffed up her cheeks at him in severe indignation. “Why, you…”

The dragon laughed at that. He then gestured for the nearby wall, an idea forming in his head. “Heh. Tell you what… let’s go and give them some space for now. There’s still a lot of damage to repair, and I’d rather not disturb the sleeping beauties here with your impatience.”

The pony spluttered at him, her cheeks flushing. Her wings ruffled at her sides before, with a huff of annoyance, she thrust her nose into the air and marched for the wall like an agitated noblemare. The dragon watched her go, stifling the urge to chuckle. The wall opened up before her, and she stepped out into the hallway beyond.

After a moment, he rose to his claws and made to follow her. He paused in the hole as it widened to accommodate his broad frame and glanced back at the sleeping ponies. His draconic lips curled into a small smile. “...Sweet dreams, girls… and wake up soon. We’ve waited a long time…”

With that, he turned and vanished through the hole in the wall, allowing it to close behind him with an audible scrape of stone.
