My friend didn't want me to draw their OC because then they'd have to do something nice in return. And thus:

Also, no, very obviously, this comic is not sold as an NFT. Fuck NFTs and everything they stand for,
For a second I thought this was your entry for the contest that you'd posted literally an hour after the announcement went up, and I was going to be so mad at you for winning it with a comic literally immediately.
Anyway, please don't post our private Discord conversations like this, I just wanted to see if you like drawing feet.

What the hell is an NFT? Some sort of acronym for something?
I don't know if you meant to imply Moondancer's trying to seduce Twilight by wiping out humanity, but I'm on board for it.
Also, CelestAI is an anagram, and I personally pronounce it suh-LEST-ay-ai, so it fits the same rhythm as Celestia. I'm not married to that nickname, but I can understand how it came about.
Here's hoping the new teeth are working out, and that this is less of a cry for help than it seems!
This was amazing. I unfortunately haven't read FIO, and I also want to try something for the Cadance Is a Terrible Mom contest, so I'll have to pass on that, but way to go Moondancer!
Looking forward to your next comic. Good look with all your dental woes! Eat lots of Jello!

Same. I think it fits perfectly. So shove it, Twi.
Do you accept Derpybucks™ for your NFT?
5486873
You have interesting friends and fans.

NFT's are very specific units of data that can be used to mark a digital item as unique. It was originally created as a way to stop people from endlessly copying bitcoins to generate infinite amounts of money. Nowadays it's a new gimmick that's currently being used to try and sell digital goods for extra money. Instead buying a digital artpiece, you buy the NFT, which is kind of like buying an invisible, ethereal certificate of authenticity that lets you brag that this particular digital piece is unique. For bonus controversy, some artists have found that NFT's of their art are being sold without their knowledge, consent or a cut of the spoils.
5486873
I automatically love your friend now.
5486884
Wait, you pronounce the Celest part of CelestAI differently from the one in Celestia? I'm sorry, is this some kind of english joke that I'm too not-american to understand?
The whole of human history summed up by Twilight: "Oh, I severely doubt the people rich enough... will care."
5486881
NFT stands for No Fucking Teeth.
5486873
Shit, are you telling me I burned down all these acres of rainforest for nothing?
5486915
The true wealth is the environmental destruction we caused along the way.
Yeah, I'm confuzzled. I'm reading this as you saying "Sell-est-aye-eye" is somehow MORE clunky than "Sell-est-ee-aye-eye," which doesn't make sense. How ARE you pronouncing those?
Also, foot guy! Least, I'm gonna assume it's a guy, because literally everything about that DM screams "guy." He sure does know what he wants! Good thing he's so incredibly subtle.
5486881
A Non-fungible token. Basically, you know how the original Mona Lisa is more valuable than any copy of the Mona Lisa for no reason at all? Take that concept, attach it to a bitcoin, and sprinkle in a bit of art theft, and you have the broad outlines of a NFT.
As such, they have absolutely no redeeming values.
Sadly I don't see a link to an auction starting at $100,000 USD Freedom Eagles for said NFT, so I don't think it's real.
5486884
I hate to be That Person, but in FiO it's just "Celestia" who happens to be an AI.
Celest-AI was just a fan designation. It's crept into story usage over time.
5486894
it shouldn't be? That's the intent of "CelestAI" to be pronounced the same first half
Suh-LEST-ee-Ah -> Suh-LEST-ayy-eye.
At this point I'm really left wondering what sort of battlefield your DMs look like. I just, never realized? Somehow in my head your DMs were tame, quaint.

There are actual real uses for ERC-721 tokens / NFTs. I used to work for a startup that used them for ownership stakes in a peer-to-peer network. Decentraland (and similar) are also kinda neat.
But in general, I agree. The entire current crypto-art NFT fad is disheartening. They're not doing anything interesting with what is actually powerful technology. That...this...was the breakout use case for non-fungible tokens makes me kinda sad.
5486884
This is also how I pronounce it.
5486884
And here I've been saying it Chelest—aiee!!! all this time.
...I never actually noticed how awkward it is to pronounce, huh.
Also, I really like the way you drew Moondancer here, heh
5487008
I'm never going to be able to read MLP fanfiction ever again. This is going to be lurking in the back of my mind forever.
5486955
I thought it was as you said, but I thought FOME had said it wasn't. Now I'm confused
5486980
The really fun part is that we're now running into a bunch of different fraud methods, which were all developed *because* of the way art NFTs work (no way to ensure that the original artist is the one who created the NFT, no guarantee that the link will stay up, no guarantee that the NFT even is what you say it is...)
So now older, more reasonable NFT projects are gonna get flak because a bunch of idiots made NFTs famous via art scams.
Fuck NFTs obviously but also if you had actually sold this comic as one that would have been very funny in a very stupid way
5486879
I had similar thoughts :D
Snerk!
Twilight's naming sense is bizarre, but the comics were amusing.
5487071
There are reasonable NFT projects? Are there any where ownership of a NFT actually gives some kind of material thing, unique right, or privilege? Because I haven't heard of any.
5487397
The guy I replied to mentioned Decentraland--that was a web project that offered to give decentralized, provable ownership of a virtual "plot of land". Basically, the goal was to let you own a website without having to have the Decentraland servers up to prove you owned that website--meaning that if Decentraland went under, or if they got hacked, or if they turned evil, your ownership of that virtual area wouldn't get messed up.
They've been quiet for a while, and probably will stay quiet until the current NFT drama blows over.
See, now you've forced me to go check one of the comics with humans and compare the bust sizes there with screenshots from various Equestria Girls material. And then come to no conclusion other than that it's hard to compare bust sizes by eye between different art styles.
I had no choice.

All of the Ethereum Name Service (Ethereum's answer to DNS for wallets and IPFS sites) is on top of NFTs; people often forget this because the first ENS version was based on spawning contracts. There are also several directory "name-to-encryption-key" NFTs with different properties. There are multiple trading card games which store their card ownership information as NFTs. ERC-721 is just another interface you can add to your smart contract, and people do all sorts of weird things on top of it.
Wait so all I have to do is annoy you enough and I’ll end up in one of your comics?
Yikestropolis (re: the happy PM stalker). This beautiful comic that brought joy into my morning also makes me super-relieved I have never posted my art on Fimfiction.
I shouldn't be surprised, though, as it even happens with writing. It took multiple, increasingly forceful "stahp" to explain to a specific user you have probably encountered (most prolific authors here have at one point, or many many points, as I hear tell) that no, I do not do "requests" a.k.a. free commissions or even have time for paid commissions, and when I said "no" it does not mean "I'll give it some thought", and no, that response has not changed since you asked me the exact same thing two days ago. Also after calling them out in public, they created an alt to have another go at people because clearly it was just reputation and not literally the requests for free stuff. Also also the people who were so nice that they decided to actually give the brony a free commission ended up discovering soon thereafter that some very specific and detailed demands on precisely how to write the story they were writing for free as well as notifications on how they needed to complete it much faster were repeated things that happened.
5487560
...we're doomed
5486955
I think you mean "ay" rather than "aye"...? "Aye" in English is a homonym of "eye", unfortunately.
5487977
Can I see your (probably weird and disturbing) art?
5487985
wait, for real? bummer. edited
5488565
don't make me tap the thing I just wrote
5487977
Pm me then bby or fuck text me for all I care I’m just a nosy curious cat who likes discovering weird shit
Oh good, I'm not the only one who thinks it's a terrible name.
And that guy in the DMs just... trying to be helpful. With the feet. You know, like you do.
5486873
Why do people like NFTs, and why do you hate them? What do they stand for? Are you by any chance going to Everfree Northwest in Seattle in August?
5487560
It doesn't work. I tried.
5537097
Gay
5537108 Trix is ambisexual, so it's only half-gay.
5537096
NFTs are pure unregulated capitalism. They're an attempt to introduce scarcity to a digital world, while at the same time not actually making things scarce. It's entirely a scam on a computationally and electrically intensive system, it wastes power and manufactured resources to manage these digital tokens. And the people promoting them know that they have to inflate their value to get any actual profit out of them. So they draw in people with the promise of a Get Rich Quick scheme, knowing the marks will wind up either broke or perpetuating the scam themselves.
I'm gonna be awake for Hours now trying to figure out how I pronounced CelestAI originally, and how I think it should be pronounced. Celeste-E-AI? Celeste AI? CELESTE-EYE-AI?????
