Four short, mostly disjointed stories revolving around Hoofington locksmith Luster Lock and one pony with whom she becomes acquainted.

Untitled (Luster Lock vs. Bristle)
Working after hours at Lock's Locks, Luster has a pleasant run-in with a stallion and his young son.

"The Facts of Ponyville" (Luster Lock vs. Heather Rose)
Apart from her Germane heritage, Heather Rose isn't far off from your average Ponyville flower farmer. And like any good Ponyville flower farmer, she doesn't do so well with danger or the bombastic idiots who go seeking it out.

"Supercell" (Luster Lock vs. Vanilla Skies)
Manehattan Weather Cooperative Overseer Vanilla Skies is authorized to hire any able-bodied pegasi on one-time commissions in periods of dire need. The freak storm heading into the city tonight more than qualifies.

"What You Love" (Luster Lock vs. Lilligold)
A respected breeder of magical plants, Elmshire's Lilligold, finds herself in the throes of a particularly troublesome bout of gardener's block.

My collected submissions to Obselesence's OC Slamjam competition, wherein anonymous authors each created an OC to write against the other authors' OCs. The character descriptions that the stories were based upon can be found here. A deeper explanation of and my retrospective on the competition can be found in this blog post. Note: This story has been re-submitted for publishing with permission. Sorry if you've seen it go up already.

Far to the west of Equestria, beyond the vast Luna Ocean, there lies a country of emerald fields and twinkling coastlines. And the gleaming capital of this country, Elmshire, is a fairytale metropolis of skybound spires and pretty ponies. It is a city of greatness, where historic tales are forged and reforgedā€”begun and ended. From withstanding the epic darkness of the draconic war, to redefining the modern gemstone industry, to being the purported birthplace of Princess Cadance herself, none can contest its brilliance.

But those are stories for another time. For as grand as the city is, it is nothing without the small, mundane ponies who fill it.

Lilligold is one of these ponies. An obscenely shy but immeasurably talented mare, she is the pinnacle of an Elmshire-bred pony. Being the owner of a well-renowned plant shop specializing in the most peculiar of flora, she has her fair share of stories to tell. Take a glimpse, if you would, into the life of one of Elmshire's more unique residents.

A collection of short stories from The OC Slamjam featuring my OC Lilligold alongside a whole smattering of other ponies. Feel free to brush up on these characters beforehand with this this handy dandy OC compendium. It might make this a bit easier to understand. Regardless, I hope you enjoy!

Redwood is a mare of simple desires. She enjoys alcohol, male company, and competitive challenges, and is best known for her uncanny ability to find all three wherever she goes. What she is not known for is her discipline and restraint.

Perhaps a military career was not a smart choice for her.

Part of the Borderworld.

Originally written for the OC Slamjam. Now with audio reading by Jacob M. Keene (and 5 VA guests).

Rachis Barbule is a well-educated, upper middle class unicorn stallion from Canterlot. Who happens to have a passion and talent for taking care of pegasus wings. Father may not approve, but hey, there's not much competition in a town like Canterlot! And business is never dull.

These were my two submissions to the OC Slamjam writing contest, where everyone has their own OC, every round two contestants are paired together to write stories featuring both their OC and their opponent's and readers vote for the winner. I only lasted the two rounds, but people liked my stories, so I'm publishing them together now.

Round 1: vs. Obvious Question (Bugsydor)
Rachis loves attending the Canterlot Follies every month. He loves the intermission show, when the playwright brings up an audience member or two to interview in front of the audience. Always funny. Though admittedly very scary when he chooses you.

Round 2: vs. Mango Leaf (WandererD)
An old zebra legend from a world a little different than the one we know.

Chapters (2)

Lilligold, the kindred shopkeeper from Elmshire, travels to Neighpon to collect some cherry blossoms for her magical botany experiments. With the help of a local pearl diver named Mizuko, it seems like her mission is a done deal.

If only it were that easy.

Loud Mouth is a part-time motivational speaker, and seemingly all-time unpaid intern. She's always dreamed of having her own radio show, and broadcasting her voice to millionsā€”but no matter how hard she tries, it always seems like the cards aren't in her favor. She's always too timid, or too soft-spoken.

But with the (mostly unsolicited) help of three very different ponies, Loud Mouth may start to find the path to change.

A collection of stories from Obsolesence's OC Slamjam, featuring the character Loud Mouth. These stories are presented as they were in the competition, and have not been altered in any way. In addition, these stories have almost no continuity, meaning that they can be read in any order you like.

Here is Loud Mouth's biography, as entered in the OC Encyclopedia:

"OC Name: Loud Mouth

Species: Pegasus

Appearance: Loud Mouth is a tall pegasus mare with gangly legs. Her coat is a light tan color, while her mane--which is short cut, but always seems to be mussed up--is a dirty blonde. Her feathers are always a bit ruffled, no matter how much she preens them, and she always seems to have bags under her eyes. She always seems to have a smile on her face, even if it's a small one. Her cutie mark is a radio microphone with silver sound waves emanating from it.

History: Loud Mouth was born in a Cloudsdale suburb to two snowflake designers. As a child, her parents always encouraged her to practice her weather making skills, but she never had a knack for it--being responsible for Equestria's weather was an idea that just stressed her out. Instead, Loud was always drawn to the entertainment business--particularly radio. Throughout her teenage years, Loud interned at the local Cloudsdale radio station, 97.4, "The Bolt."

It was at The Bolt that she got her cutie mark. One day during an awful storm, due to a lack of staffing, Loud Mouth--who up to that point had just been running coffee between studios--was forced to go on the air to deliver an emergency weather broadcast. Little did she know that she would have to carry the weather broadcast for the next six hours, until the storm ended. The experience was exhilarating, exciting... something that she had never felt before. When she finally went off-air, her cutie mark appeared.

Her young adulthood was spent bouncing from radio station to radio station, unfortunately never getting any sort of on-air position. Now, at the ripe old age of thirty-one, Loud Mouth works as a motivational speaker, encouraging ponies young and old alike to "follow their dreams" and to "dare to think big."

Personality: Loud Mouth is well-meaning, but extremely unconfident in herself. Despite all of the advice she gives to ponies--all of which she does believe--she can never seem to make her own dreams come true. Whenever she tries to exit her comfort zone, she just ends up second guessing herself. However, she never lets this frustration show, for fear that ponies will taunt her for wasting her life.

Loud Mouth loves helping ponies, and thinks that there's no greater feeling than making someone's day a bit better. Well, maybe no greater feeling than chocolate. She has an awful sweet tooth. A perfect night for Loud Mouth would be sitting at home, eating pastries and listening to the radio. Unfortunately, since most of her seminars are at night, it never seems to work out this way.

Loud Mouth hates arguments, and will do anything to get out of one, even if she feels it might be justified. As a result, she tends to bottle her frustrations inside.

If Loud Mouth saw somepony in trouble, she would think about how someone should help them, but it's rare that she would actually do it, because what could someone like her do anyway?"
