Because when birthdays no longer are a joyous occasion but some kind of achievement, who wouldn't worry about one's kin and who wouldn't wonder how they will be remembered? Because life is fleeting and death can take you in barely a breath, or in your sleep.

I almost cried, a great story. Granny Smith is indeed a strong character and gave the best possible creation for her grandchildren.
I think you meant yoke. Probably something that autocorrect fixed and was missed by any grammar checker.
Now that I finished the story I can say this was a touching look at Granny Smith. I think she does worry about them but she should be proud of how they have turned out and what they will do.

This was good. Touching. I think the feels could have been stronger somehow but not bad. A few spots where the grammar could use work as well. But I enjoyed it.

This was a great, emotional story. I shed a tear with the last couple of lines. I felt those last couple of lines signified her last sleep/passing.
It really hit me hard. My great grandmother Duke passed that way in the hospital. Thank you for writing this. It really helped me remember her.
