So I'll be the first to admit it. I hated Starlight when she first appeared. Heck I hated Starlight for a long time after that too. She was a cheap Twilight ripoff. She was a crappy Sunset Shimmer.
But man did she become something amazing if you give her a chance. By the end of season 7 I do believe she is the best thing about the show itself. (Look I know that's not saying much by that point but c'mon, credit where credit's due.)
I do get the feeling though that she's still viewed as a pretty inferior character by the majority of the fandom, which just isn't fair in my opinion.
I also think she's a really great ship character. (TwiLight, TrixLight, even SunLight can be okay.)
She's just a really versatile character and since she's so... awkward, she can be used in a lot of scenarios which is always fun. My next long major work has Starlight as a focal point because I wrote The End is Not the End before I'd finished season 7 so I didn't really use Starlight there. To be honest if I had She would've played a way bigger role there cause I love her now. Just below my beloved Luna and Celestia are Twi/Sun/Star. They really are amazing characters.
That's kind of how TPWC 2 came about. I wanted a quick experience to practice writing Starlight. I think it came out pretty well though I may have gone overboard with her regret as quickly as it happened, but I only had a chapter and it was already pushing higher than 5k words so yeah. She'll get a whole lot more fleshing out in my next major work after the End.
Anyway yeah. Starlight Glimmer. An amazing character that I really do love.
