Hi! It's me! Avery of the Day! And I come to you with my first submission in, uhh
Well, okay, so its been that long since my last story submission, but it hasn't been as long since the last chapter I posted which was
Okay, yeah, you get the idea. It's been Some Time since the last thing I posted. I've already gone on and on about all the things that have stopped me, so I won't waste any time getting into that. Instead, I will give you a brief update, and then I want to talk a little more about this story and where it comes from.
Life is still pretty turbulent at the moment, but it looks like I'm coming up on a slow period. Also, near the end of the month, my editor and lovely gf Nudistsquid will be visiting! During that time, we'll be focused on spending time with each other, but we'll also probably be working on TECHNOMAGICOMMUNION together.
Speaking of, TMC is coming along nicely! It's actually a really good thing we delayed the release of it, because this idea is so much better already simply because it's had more time to bake. Again, I don't know when I'll be ready to start posting chapters, but I think it'll be worth the wait!
Now, about Closer!
Back in mid December, I started writing out a SciSet vignette based on a personal event in my life, and this one vignette turned into ten almost immediately after. It's actually been sitting in a mostly-finished state since then, too, but I sat on it for a real long time for a few reasons. I was going to redraft everything and start from scratch after writing the initial flow because something about it wasn't working for me at the time, but each rewrite only made things work even less.
The other reason is because this was supposed to be an engagement anniversary present for my wife, but I didn't end up getting it into a presentable state in time to meet that deadline, so I shelved it and figured I'd come back to it eventually. And there it lay dormant on google docs for months.
Then I saw The SciSet Contest announcement, and one of the first things that popped into my head was this story I hadn't visited in a good long time. Figuring it might be the perfect thing to submit for such a contest, I opened up the doc and started reading/playing with it. After giving it a lot of thought, I eventually decided against submitting it for the contest. Considering this is technically a sequel, I feel it's best enjoyed if read after everything else I've published here especially because the later parts of the story get near-masturbatory with how referential to my other material they get LOL.
I'm mostly joking about that last bit, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't just a tad self-conscious about how much reference there is (and how easily it might be interpreted as "reuse" instead). But, as I've said before, this whole thing is The Me Show For Me Starring Me Directed By Me. I Do What I Want.
As it says in the description, this story was written for and about my wife. A lot of the things in this story are based on things we've been through. Before her and I moved in together, we were separated by thousands of miles, and while we graciously closed that gap in less than a year after getting together, dealing distance was (and is) very hard, and it gets harder every time you have to say goodbye again.
There's a lot more that's analogous to me, but I don't want to give everything away. I'll spill more deets once the story has concluded which, thankfully, shouldn't be much longer. For now, I think this is a good stopping point. I really hope you enjoy the new story, and I hope you'll enjoy the rest of it when it drops!
