    Computer Problems: FIXED!!

Finally after months my Archival Computer is back up and running, while I still have to install drivers for the graphics card I've gotten LibreOffice working (turns out I was using the wrong version) and after doing a quick check on the last word doc I edited before this whole thing happened I can happily confirm it's all there as I left it. :pinkiehappy:

    I'm Back.

So ultimately I only stayed for two nights and just got home a half-hour ago, but my Grandma is doing well and was happy to have me around. This was only going to be a short visit from the get-go and was only going to stay one night, but chose to stay two to visit with her.

Going to be offline for a bit

I'm going to be visiting my Grandma for at least a few days, might only be one night, but not sure on that front. Either way, I'm not gong to be online for a bit since my Grandma's place might not have internet (not sure if that's been fixed or not) so most likely I won't be able to log-on to anything during that time. That and I'd rather not log-on to anything when I'm not using my own

    Computer Problems: Quick Update

So; good news is my Archival Computer (AC) is more-or-less up and running and all my pictures are there and fine, just need to install drivers for my graphics card to fix some screen issues (nothing serious, just have a black void on either side of the desktop) and my LibreOffice.

    Computer Problems, possibly Fixed?

    So a short while back my old XP Machine, which I'm using as an "Archival Computer" for things like pictures, word documents, and playing older non-Steam games, had a crash were the hard drive holding the OS for it kicked the bucket. So here's the story behind that;

Venting some frustration · 9:30am Aug 14th, 2023

Hey guys, just had to vent something I've been fighting with since my last Blog Post.

So as you all know one of my computers' motherboards kicked the bucket and I got that fixed, but I've been having issues since then. Not with the computer itself, that's working fine. What I'm having issues with is Microsoft Word 2007, which I use for my stories, story notes, and other personal projects. It worked fine until the motherboard died, and while I can still read those docs. I can't really do anything with them until reactivation.

Easy fix right...

NOPE! Because now I can't get it to reactivate and I'm at the end of my rope after trying many things out and not. One. Thing has worked.

Now I get it's on an old XP machine and that's fine; I'm only using it for my word docs. and pictures (since the auto-assign being stuck on permanently on Windows 7 and above is total BULL!) now so no trouble. However, since the activation thing was connected to the old motherboard I needed reactivate it for this one, but since the phone option is no longer available I have to do it over the net, which by itself is not a problem. But when I try to do it with the over the net option it starts... and just crashes, each and every time. :flutterrage: :raritydespair:

Fortunately there is some good news in all this frustration; My mother has another option I could use called LibreOffice, which is what she uses. So I have that as a fallback if I can't get Word working again.

Thanks for listening and letting me vent, if worse comes to worst I'll use transfer the docs. to LibreOffice or something, I mean I've already backed-up them so I've got nothing to lost at this point.

Sorry for all the computer troubles you're having. That sort of crap is never fun to deal with.

Sorry to hear that, buddy.

I rely on Microsoft Word as well, so when it's not working, I panic since most of my story stuff is on there.

If I may suggest, when Word gets dicey for me, I like to copy and paste my work onto Google Docs. It's not perfect, but it does let me work until I can figure out what the problem with Word is (usually, the problems always required some sort of update :ajbemused: Always drove me nuts how often tech needs to be upgraded)

Not sure if this will help, but either way, I hope that you find a solution to the Word problem. And you know you can always talk to us if you need to vent again.

Hang in there, buddy. 👍

Thanks for the support guys, and I have an update; I've found out why it wouldn't reactivate.

It turns out, the activation is hard-coded or something to the first motherboard it was activated on so I'd need to deactivate it first. Normally this wouldn't be an issue... but it's a little hard to do that when the motherboard is dead, I can't even get to the BIOS on it. :facehoof:

So from the looks of things I'm gonna have to use something else for those docs, LibreOffice is looking better and better as my frustration builds up.

I'll let you know if things change.

Update: So after some headache I tried LibreOffice...

AND IT WORKS! :pinkiehappy: :raritystarry:

I am able to edit my docs again!
