    Seashell paperback incoming!

Once again, the proof copy is out for delivery right now.

The hardcover edition proof copy turned out great - some text mistakes to fix, but no printing errors that aren't mine! Lulu can print a book to specifications! Yay!

    Seashell: getting closer to print!

Here's where we are on the Seashell print book:
83 pages all told, including front matter and a preface. 75 of them so far are story. Anticipating about 10-20 more pages to be finished. Almost there!
Cover's done (for the hardcover edition dust-jacket, at least, will probably have to be redone for the paperback but whatever).

Seashell: The Book™: progress report · 3:18am Dec 2nd, 2023

I'm pleased to be able to say progress is being made, although to temper the good news, it hasn't been entirely easy.

I've just gotten over the first of the two major emotional hills I'm expecting the story to have to encounter. And while I'm glad I wrote it, it was hard on me. It may be been bleeding out into other parts of my life in some ways, which hasn't been great, but I guess it's encouraging in a way because I think that's a hallmark of good writing; it should influence you.
Whether it actually means my writing on this project is good rather than those effects just being coincidental... well, that remains to be seen. :derpytongue2:

I'm continually surprised by how there's... well, not that much to actually laying out a book. At least, not with Adobe InDesign. I thought this would be more horrendous instead of adding and laying out a chapter taking like literally 3 minutes. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, but so far, nothing to it. I guess the day I get the proof copy from the printer and see how bad it's mangled is going to be the day I eat these words, but that's a while off. So. You know. Future-me problem. :moustache:

Still gotta finish writing the whole darn thing first.
Still gotta make the cover art first.
Still gotta— well, that's about it, really.

And that's where we are. Getting closer! Been writing every day. Just have to keep on keeping on 'til it's done.

That's great news, I'm glad it's going so smoothly! Even with very little exposure to publishing I've heard that laying out a story for print can be an ordeal all in itself. Either the tools have improved or your luck is better, but either way, hopefully that other shoe never drops.

And "Seashell: The Book™" makes me wonder if there will be moychendising. Seashell: the t-shirt, Seashell: the coloring book, Seashell: the lunchbox... :)

It’s great to hear you’re making good progress! Hope everything keeps going smoothly.

Good luck!
