Behind-the-page: Relapse · 7:56pm April 27th
Hiya, lovely peeps!
Welcome to Behind-the-page, the series where I give you background information on my newest release. On today’s spotlight, we have: Relapse!
So, first story on the year on the tail end of April. Suppose I’m going to be a little slow on stories this year as compared to last year. But no matter.
Relapse started out as nothing more than a simple transcript. I had written out a conversation between Starlight and Twilight, set in the middle of S6E21, “Every Little Thing She Does”. Seriously. You can take a look at the original conversation here, filled with comments from my editor. And then, the story grew wings and flew in directions I had never intended.
All of a sudden, I found myself with a kinda-sorta story on my hands. So, with lots of help from my editor, I turned the transcript into a full-blown prose-and-dialogue story. This entire process took well over a month, beginning in late March and ending two days ago.
Speaking of my editor, none of this would have been possible without them. JinxJTL has been an absolute delight to work with. Together, we bounced ideas off, re-phrased and sometimes re-wrote entire paragraphs, and generally had a lot of fun. They pointed out some of of the more funky wordings, corrected tons of typos and gave me suggestions on places where I got stuck. Jinx, if you’re reading this, words cannot describe how grateful I am for your help.
Whipped up that cover art in two days. It clocked in at less than 2 hours of work and yet, I really like it. HapHazred of the Art for Fanfiction group once told me that the lack of outlines in my drawings gave them a warm and fuzzy look, so I ran with that here and did the entire lineless. I really like how it turned out, even if it’s not my favorite piece ever.
As for the story itself, well... I’m really proud of how it turned out. It might sound like a brag, but I’ve come a long way from I started with How to Host a Party. The narration looks good, the dialogue flows naturally, grammar is okay - I read the story out loud and it sounded good to my ears. I really want an actual reviewer’s opinion on it, but for now, I am really happy.
Alright, let’s talk about the reception. Dear Harmony, I was not expecting this kind of reception. In the span of 12 hours, it had reached 38 upvotes - 38! - which is higher than my average. In the 24 hours since I posted it, it has already broken 400 views and is past the 50-upvote mark. (That one downvote is irritating since it brought the story down my top-rated list.) It got me 2 extra followers, reached the top spot on the Featured list (a first for me; not even Ladybugs Awake achieved that) and freakin’ Scyphi commented on it. Someone also went through my entire collection and added an extra upvote to everything. Whoever you are, if you’re reading this, thank you!
Dear readers, give Relapse a chance, an upvote and a comment. Comments matter most.
That’s all for tonight, lovely peeps. Stay tuned; there’s more where that came from!
