Thoughts on Parental Glidance · 12:47am Last Sunday
This episode hit me; I've watched it multiple times before as it is somewhat personal, and I can relate a lot to Scootaloo and where she was coming from in this episode.
Basiclly, the episode is about Rainbow Dash's parents finding out she's a Wonderbolt through Scootaloo, who visited them to write a report on Rainbow Dash. The two are Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles. Both are boisterous and can come off a bit rowdy, but they greatly worship their daughter. Then they start annoying Rainbow Dash with her Wonderbolt shows until she blows up on them, and then Scootaloo reacts in disgust at what Rainbow Dash did. Then the pegasus chases after the filly to apologize, explaining how her parents' "over-the-top behavior" made it difficult for her, and then comes to realize they were just supporting her throughout her life, from her defeats to her triumphs. So Rainbow Dash rectifies the situation, gives her parents a private Wonderbolt Show, and apologizes. I also liked the ending where Rainbow Dash and her parents were cheering on Scootaloo when she was giving her report.
I understand where Rainbow Dash was coming from and how her parents were going overboard with their cheering, but what hit me the most was Scootaloo's reaction. I dealt with a lot of abuse and disapproval from my own parents that honestly messed me up for so long that it's difficult for me to really describe how I feel now. But in a sense, I agree with Scootaloo that Rainbow Dash is lucky to have parents who love and accept her for who she is, and yeah, in my opinion, even though they should tone down their behavior, they're amazing parents and it not like I think parents should shower their kids with attention all the time. But honestly, coming from the opposite extreme, I can't help but envy what Rainbow Dash has sometimes.
Overall, the episode was good and did a great job fleshing Rainbow Dash's family out. I also really enjoyed seeing Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash connect at the end of the episode.
I absolutely love it.
