Story recommendations: Kaleidoscope, A Canterlot Carol, Thweet Geniuth · 5:35am Dec 25th, 2012
Skywriter blogged about a new one-shot by TheVulpineHero1 called "Kaleidoscope". It is one of those damnably-perfect stories that I can't quite appreciate, because it gives me more jealousy than pleasure. It's displaced "The Vinyl Scratch Tapes" on my user page Top 5 for now. Soon after starting it, you'll come across some things in the story that don't make sense. Trust the author. They will all make perfect sense in the end. It's structured as a mind-fuck, but it isn't just a mind-fuck. It's also a horror story and kind of sweet. Maybe it doesn't hit any one of those three aspects as hard as some stories, but, damn, it does all three, and the writing maintains a poetic style for most of three thousand words that I feel lucky to hold onto for a paragraph.
GhostOfHeraclitus has a heartwarming (and carefully-structured!) Hearths-warming story in beta, "A Canterlot Carol", that should appear here on Christmas day within a few days. (If you're an EqD pre-reader, you'll probably be able to find it in the submission queue at about the same time it appears here, if you are inclined to look for it. He'd hoped to finish it 2 weeks before Christmas, but reality intervened.)
JMac is trying to get "Thweet Geniuth" (yes, a Twist story!), the sequel to "Quizzical", out in a few days as well. EqD rejected Quizzical. Now they won't even read his sequels to it, because "side stories of stories not featured in EQD cannot be considered." I get un-Christmasy feelings thinking about that. It is a complete story that stands on its own; you don't need to read Quizzical first.
Well, I feel better about being bounced on "Concept Art" for a second time now. Quizzical is so much better than my work. Would that be Schadenfreudepony?
