Princess Cadence's role in Cadenceverse, MLP Friendship is Magic episodes
This post will be discussing M!verse Celestia, L!verse Luna and my ideas for C!verse Cadence. Specifically it will be discussing how I feel each princess "manages" their respective group of elements and how they interact & deal with the villains of the series.
Celestia's role: Within the maneverse Celestia generally interacts with the mane cast in somewhat distant, but kindly manner, she's a benevolent boss and is a Trickster Mentor/Big Good, with traits of a High Queen & Eccentric Mentor. When dealing with villains she generally uses a combination of Batman Gambits, and Xanatos Gambits, she's a chess-master, big good, who manipulates events to ensure a quick resolution minimal damage or harm to the innocent, while staying out of the fray herself. Even when an entity like Discord broke out of his cage, Something Celestia didn't seem to expect she still managed to play him like a 50 cent kazoo and have him sealed up within a day. Celestia sadly has little presence in the show and mostly stays in the background, the rest of the cast look up to her and her relationship with Twilight is more or less mother daughter.
None canon, but I've often imagined that Celestia "observed" what ever the M6 were doing when fighting the big bads as a sort of invisible safety net.
Luna's role: Within L!verse Luna is something closer to an adviser to the mane cast, she rarely gets directly involved because of her position as a leader and her celestial duties, but she's more inclined to move directly than Celestia when she feels she has to. Luna also fills the role of mission control and Reasonable Authority Figure, she advises and aids the heroes and is sort of their long distant manager/employer. Overall she's more directly involved in the plot than Ceelstia herself, often showing up to speak with the mane cast. But it's mostly in an "official" capacity as either princess or in a disaster.
Cadence's role: I would try to make Cadence's role within the story, especially the "two parter" episodes, larger and more direct than the current princess's, her holding up a shield while the mane cast try to deal with a threat demonstrates how I would use her with the villains. I think her background would encourage a more, take action, style of problem solving, Cadence also has less Governmental responsibility as it can run with or without her and while intelligent she's not really a chess master. I would have Cadence be a Supporting Leader combined with Royals Who Actually Do Something and she'd have elements of "Hero of Another Story" often working in the background against the big bads plans.
For example: if Grogar returned, Cadence would create a barrier around the city and its dark master, she'd have an army waiting only a short distance away, while the mane cast sneak around to do battle with the villain directly. The Crystal Empire would be another prime example, she summons a shield and protects the city while the mane cast attack the problem directly. Princess Cadence would interact with the mane cast more often than either of the current princess's as she has more time on her hooves. She'd be quite friendly with them and try to offer advice or support when and where she could, but excluding her student, the relationship would be something closer to an acquaintance whom they greatly admire & respect. Cadence would probably have allies other than the mane cast, who may or may not get called on when times are tough or receive special mention.

I had a hard time writing this piece so I hope it doesn't come across as rushed or poorly written, but it was something I wanted to bring up. The next post will likely involve what I'd do with the M!canon and L!canon cast members and maybe some ideas for Boast Busters/Boast Busted.

Well, ultimately, Cadance would probably be a character you'd want to keep to the background or out of the way. While fun to have around, the fact of the matter is that she's a deity, not on the same level as Luna or Celestia, but a deity nevertheless. Problems rising up that can challenge her, could possibly be too much for the C6 to handle at all without some kind of magical MacGuffin, which is a perfectly valid plot device but also one that can get old.

I was thinking about how Cadence woudl interact with the big bads of the seasons as opposed to the more minor threats such as dragon or mega ultra Timberwolves, which the mane cast would have to handle with nothing but their wits and freindships.
Though in regards to the Sombra example, if such a story were written Cadence would not be the one to use the heart to destroy him the cast would, Cadence would just serve the role of barrier maiden/warrior in the background of the episode, as opposed to the protagonist. If she were included in a more normal episode it would be something closer to Luna Eclipsed or the Gala, but she'd never get to "secondary character" levels.
I do agree that the magical plot device can get old, that would certainly be something to look out for.
