DVD Commentary? or, Stealing From the Popular Kids To Become Popular · 9:06pm Oct 5th, 2013
So I survived the pilot shoot. It was an amazing experience, and also completely exhausting. I was not expecting to be working 12+ hour days at a location an hour from where I live. Also, looking back, my actual duties were never really explained to me beyond "do whatever people need." It all worked out more or less anyway but damn was I tired. I think it took me most of the intervening week just to recover.
The biggest takeaway? Professional puppeteers are the coolest people. I'm so glad I got to meet all of them, and also all the other really talented people who worked much harder than I did to make things happen. But seriously, in a moment of downtime I ended up watching Adventure Time over the shoulder of a bunch of people who've worked on Sesame Street and whatnot. It deeply surreal.
Anyway, I'm trying to get back into the swing of things here, and to warm up/tide y'all over, I'm offering a deal that literally a ton of other people on this site have already offered (no, seriously, the combined weight of all the authors who did this before me is over 2000lbs):
Pick any passage of 500 words or less from any fanfic I’ve written, and stick that selection in my ask/fan mail. I will then give you the equivalent of a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what’s going on in the character’s heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you’d expect to find on a DVD commentary track.
So fire away. Do note, however, that if you choose a snippet from an ongoing fic, most particularly Twilight Sparkle vs The Equestrian Library Association, then I reserve the right tell bald-faced lies that would make a congressional candidate blush about anything that would be a spoiler.
Sounds like fun, right? Hopefully? Well, I'll be having fun, anyway.
