How It Should Have Ended - Feeling Pinkie Keen · 7:38pm Oct 6th, 2013
I decided to only write a blogpost about Feeling Pinkie Keen, because my alternative version(s) wouldn't have reached the 1000 word limit.
First of all, I have to tell, that I liked this episode, and really appreciate the work of Dave Polsky. I also loved his other episode, Over a Barrel, because it brought up beautiful memories about the Gildedale scenes of "It's Dangerous Business Going Out Of Your Door" (One of the best fimfictions ever made. Go read. ).
I didn't even know until today, that he made both this episode and the Too Many Pinkie Pies, which also made me to write an alternative version. Every writer makes mistakes or things we identify as mistakes. That doesn't make them bad, just not perfect (or not perfect in our eyes). And nobody is perfect. When I watched this episode, Twilight Sparkle was my favorite pony. I felt that Dave took away most of her powers without any explanation to force an ending he wanted. However, that was not needed as I will demonstrate.
For this episode, I have four alternatives, all of them connected to the hydra scene:
First and most probable: After distracting the Hydra, Twilight runs back to the cliff and teleports to the other side. Same from this point.
Explanation: Twilight is the Element of Magic. Teleportation is something she frequently uses in her daily life.
Second: Twilight fights the Hydra at the cliff. She grabs its heads and keeps knocking them to each other, until she knocks out the whole creature. Then she teleports to the other side. Same from this point.
Explanation: In Boast Busters, she demonstrated how ridiculously strong her telekinetic powers are. And those hydra heads are lot smaller than an Ursa Minor.
Third: Fluttershy, seeing her friends are in lethal danger, builds up courage and Stares down the hydra, forcing it to retreat. This can happen any time while they are escaping. If it is at the last second, then after Fluttershy defeated the Hydra, Twilight teleports to the other side. Same from here, maybe the place for Twilight's freak-out changes, depending on when Fluttershy faced the Hydra.
Explanation: Fluttershy could even defeat her fears when she was facing a fully grown dragon, to protect her friends. A hydra is much smaller and is not a dragon.
Forth: Twilight explains why she can't/couldn't use magic. Everything else happens exactly the same.
Explanation: If we get a good reason, why the strongest unicorn in Equestria haven't used any of her abilities, it can even work. Possible reasons: Hydra emits magic-drain aura, Swamp emits magic-drain aura, Injuries from the Derpy accident, combination of these.
My first three alternative endings lacks the "leap of fate", which is actually how Pinkie Pie saves Twilight. Although I agree, that it greatly contributes to Twilight's decision to give up and believe Pinkie Pie, I find it forced and not that necessary.
What do you think?
