Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

A Lovely Apology: What is Whiskverse (And CPCSC)? · 11:28am Oct 21st, 2013

Glad to see A Lovely Apology (originally called "Two to Tango") is finally up. I'm sure lots of people have questions about things mentioned in the description, so here are a couple answers!

Briefly, the idea behind the Crack Pairing Circleship Collab was simple: randomly generate a pair of ponies, ship them with pony 1 being the POV character, then pass pony 2 on the next writer to become their pony 1. Rinse and repeat. As happens, only so many stories got completed out of the original lineup, but those that were are listed here:

Over the Rainbow (Screwball x Rainbow Dash)
Finding Inner Shine (Hoity Toity x Shining Armor)
Sunset Shimmer Has a Problem (Sunset Shimmer x Pinkie Pie)
A Wish For Greener Grass (Flash Sentry x Big Macintosh)
This Too Shall Pass (Big Macintosh x Spitfire)

And of course mine comes last in the little chain there. I have aims to read all these stories over the next two days, if that, and will be doing a special fic rec post once I'm done. :)

On to Whiskverse. This isn't a new concept, technically speaking, but I've only just unveiled it, as A Lovely Apology is technically the third story released in the 'verse.

Whiskverse is a continuation and expansion of the story presented in Whisk, natch. I've always kind of wanted to have a threaded universe of stories like this, and Whiskverse will tend to focus on slice of life stories based around the foals, whether present-time or aged-up. A Lovely Apology is a bit off from this, but it fills in a lot of background for Diamond Tiara (who will become important later), so in it goes! Also included is Dinky's First Kill, which is currently only tangentially related, but will become clearer as an element of the series as I write more stories fitting it.

There are also a few other stories in the 'series' that haven't been completed yet: the sequels to Whisk, one of which I entered in a past writeoff as "Blue Is Better" (title to change); my last writeoff entry, When Is a Muffin Not a Muffin?; and a story in my clop account. (Yes!) There's also a story I helped a guy write -- you can find it in the group I linked above -- that features cameos of characters from Whisk proper.

It's a little self-indulgent, but I was counseled to make an actual group, so there you go. :B My aim with this is just to have stories that share attributes but can be read independently (sequels aside). We'll see how long that holds up.

I dunno, making a universe group seems overly self-congratulating. With the exception of something like Humanverse, I don't think I could do that.

Well, it ain't the first group dedicated to myself that I've made. :B

Don't worry, the Bronycon authors told me it was okay.
