Project FaveBrigade -- Recommended fics · 12:04am Dec 11th, 2011
I read a lot of ponyfic, edit some, and occasionally write. Tonight I'd like to start something like a Deviant Art meme specifically for readers.
I will hold my use of the "Favorites" system of FiMFiction to a higher standard, and I want to encourage you to do the same. There's a lot of fic out there. Let's share the very best with each other.
Therefore, I pledge:
I am a steward of my fellow readers' time. My Favorites list will contain only the highest grade of fiction I can find.
1) If in doubt, I will not favor. Lack or losing favor is not a judgement of poor quality.
2) I will only favor fics I did not write nor significantly edit.
-I will restrict myself to minor criticism only. Line-by-line editing or reworking plot will result in me withdrawing favor because of the conflict of interest.
3) I will judge fics on their accomplishment, not how good I think they could be. I will cultivate a critical eye, and seek the golden mean between these statements: No fic is perfect. I do not need to favorite every good fic.
4) I will only favor fics I have finished (and wanted to finish) and given myself time to evaluate objectively.
- I will only favor fics that are Complete,
- or have at least 24k words and are actively being written. I will re-evaluate my favor on every update.
5) I will only favor fics that are worth the time to blog a recommendation.
6) My favor is my own. I will not accept applications for my favorite list, nor feel compelled to favor a fic favored by someone else.
If a fic deserves attention, but does not meet all standards, I will blog a recommendation without favor.
If you are willing to join the FaveBrigade, reblog this pledge, re-evaluate your favorite list, and comment.

Eustatian Wings' Favorite Fics on FiMFiction
Blue-Line (K or T rating)
-----
"Doom of the Snow Weasels" by Applejinx -- Problem-solving, Pinkie-style. Short, silly, slightly trollish, and guaranteed to make you smile randomly for the next couple of days at the worst possible times.
"The Glass Blower" by Cold in Gardez -- A deep, but under-appreciated fic about the creative process and its dark side. It has special meaning to me, and, I suspect, to others who write or critique, because the relationship it portrays is one we know so well. Beautiful word-painting and well-oiled prose make this 9k-word fic read like a short.
Off the Edge of the Map by Daetrin -- World-building done right. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are lost a long way from home. The only thing they have is each other -- and in a world that is constantly trying to kill them, that makes them both each other's most valuable asset.
Red-Line (significant sexual or violent content: M rating / sometimes T)

"I'd Like to Be a Tree" by Totally Not Furry -- Just plain fun. Fluttershy screws Bloomberg (yeah, the apple tree) in glorious detail. There is nothing more to say, really, that wouldn't spoil the experience.
Trixie's Magic Bit by Applejinx -- Applejinx excels at characterization, and that skill is at its peak in this fic. Expect breath-taking, sometimes disturbing, glimpses into the depths of pony souls, even -- especially -- stifle-deep in magical pony sex. I don't expect to favor many unfinished fics, but this one is certainly promising enough.
