Hello, and welcome to part one of the ESM for Mutant.
This will contain info external to the fic, to expand the knowledge of my processes of creation conjuring this world for your entertainment.

This post will focus on plans that have changed since what I originally had in mind (as of chapter 4)
Twilight's original identifier (which shows up as her username) was going to be A-42 not X42
>I changed this because X is cooler than A. Enough said about that change. The hyphen was removed to make it a better username for a young filly.
Twilight was originally going to try to lead the other ponies with her, only for the other ones to run off in fear.

1. It make the other fillies look significantly more terrified than Twilight. Twilight is just as scared as the rest of them, if not more because she knows what death is.
2.It makes what happened to them more mysterious. I'll be coming back to that.... in 6 chapters or so.
Kittery Abigail wasn't going to die. Instead, a male scientist "father figure" was going to die.

The news on ponies was going to be shown in The Reveal.

The first chapter was going to be someone (who would take Twilight in later) watching the news on those events.

I see what you mean by 'it wouldn't have the same effect' if Kittery did not die. I wish I follow my planned ideas.
