Title says it all; I'm thinking about modifying the roster again
Specifically, should I go with Trixie (Zatanna) or Twilight (Doctor Fate)?
On one hand, I want to show Trixie turning over a new leaf, and I had ideas on how I could tie her in to New Genesis. On the other hand, Twilight has had more of a positive impact on this particular universe, and I would have to find a reason why she wouldn't just fight Darkseid herself/ join the League and make it a bit unbalanced numberwise.
Thoughts?
Who else will be on the team when it's first formed?
You could use both.
Have Twilight start out with the league, get taken out, then have Trixie step up to take her place/rescue her, then make them work together in the end.

Diana- Wonder Mare
Blueblood- Batpony/ Batcolt/ The Dark Knight/ etc.
Shining Armor- Green Lantern
Lyra- Flash
Pinkie- Plastic Mare
and now I need to decide on Trixie or Twilight
Go Trixie, Twilight can come later, or possibly as some Dues Ex Machina. Maybe a sub-plot has her going through some trials as Doctor Fate in another plane?
Either way, I'd have Twilight sit this one (at least the frst round) out and have Trixie/Zatana show her change of color.
I feel like Twilight should be Doctor Fate, but make her go through some really tough trials to get there, and be kinda downplayed in power, as not to be a Mary Sue
I vote Trixie, because I like reading characters who talk in third person.
I vote for Twilight.
Twilight would make a good Dr. Fate. If she takes on Darkseid, he could put her out of comission for a while (sent through time like Batman with the eye-beams or have her back broken like Batman?), which would allow Trixie to step in for her, perhaps as a way of redeeming herself and proving her worth as a heroine.
I don't know, I see Trixie being a villain still, almost like a pony version of Cerse (spelling if off, but the witch that turns people into animals - one of Wonder Woman's villains). It just makes more sense for Trixie to be either a hero with a tainted past, or a villain.
Twilight could be Doctor Fate, but she would need something to stand in for Fate's helmet.
Twilight. Twi. Light. Twilight. And don't nerf her, please.
Hmm...I like Zatanna more as a Justice Leaguer, and this would be a good chance for Trixie to reform...but I have a hard time believing that Twi would just stay out of the fight.
It wouldn't be ENTIRELY out of the picture for them both to be on the team...but then again, most hero teams only have one sorcerer on duty unless it's an explicitly magic-based team. 
Are you planning on doing a Justice Society eventually? Because then you could save Twi to be a member of THAT team...maybe she could find a threat so great (Eclipso maybe?) she needs a whole team to fight it, but since all the Leaguers are fighting Darkseid, she could recruit the Society to go against this different threat...? I don't know, I'm just throwing stuff out. 
Anyway, if you don't put Twi in the League, you'd probably have to find a different story for her to be prominent in, since Twilight Sparkle on Fate's magic would be a pretty big deal...but Dr. Fate's never been known for strong solo adventures. So I guess what I'm saying (
) is that Trixie would probably work better, but you'd have to find a good reason for Twilight to be out and find a good story for her to make up for it.

Have you considered using twilight as the recruiter and one whom has a special place set aside for the league to meet and act from? That way, yes, you can use twilight here and there both as her own hero, but also give rise to letting trixie in there, without the rivalry, but more, a mutual understanding.
What i'm getting at, is that twilight is a master of teleportation, but well, given the speed and places such might happen at, getting there quickly is tricky, and slow too, save for dash. But if you had a means of locomotion, a teleportation charm powered by a place, or a certain unicorn in a pocket dimension, as doctor fate had such a place, you can have her especially as a hero, but also the means to be a uniter of heroes, and be as passive or active as you need her to be.
With trixie and with twilight being of entirely different focuses, you dont have the two stepping on each others hooves, but complimenting in a very creative way. You get a lovely home base, a great in house way to recruit from anywhere in the world, a lovely rapid response team, and bam! A justice league!

And from what I can tell by the comments, quite a lot of you want me to bring in Twilight as Doctor Fate
I like the idea of having Twi be taken out (temporarily) early, or otherwise made unavailable (trapped in the Tower of Fate would work), with Trixie stepping up to fill in, with the two working together in the end.
Also, to differentiate them, one thought I just had was to have Twi/Fate mostly take things that are already there and modify them (giant stone fist out of the rocky ground, etc.) where as Trixie would likely conjure new things.

Just a thought. In the comics, Dr. Fate wasn't a member of the JL. He was, however, a member of the Justice Society of America, I don't know, maybe you can come up with something based off of that.
As to how to keep Twilight out of the League. As Sorceress Supreme, she would be charged with defending the world from the forces of Chaos, so perhaps she was forced into holding off a wave of chaos beings who sought to take advantage of the invasion and thus was unable to participate in the fight against Dark Seid and his forces.
1804870 Ah but he was a member of the JLU in the animated cartoon and remained associated with the JL through the JSA in the comics.
Ultimate however nether of this matters as it's Iowa's story not ours and he will undoubtedly come up with something epic.
