The Author Shudders and Begins to Write · 5:58pm Mar 30th, 2014
After a few months of off-and-on writing, I've got something to show. I'm done the first draft of one fic and second draft of another. They're going to see a certain amount of rewriting and editing before they're done, but the basic ideas are there. As I'm not on a deadline this time (probably also why it took four months), I'm planning to give them extra attention — fancy things like editing that takes place more than ten seconds before publishing, and which goes deeper than "does this mostly make sense, and have I eliminated most of the obvious typos?"
In actual details about the fics, they're both sequels. The first is a sequel to "Vital to the Crown," is a one-shot around 8,000 words long and is titled, "The Princess Javelin." The concept, well… if the title doesn't make it obvious, see this comment. The idea is, simply, Corporal Shining Armor learning to throw Cadence like a javelin as another royal mission. I've finished my first rounds of edits on this one and plan to look for pre-readers soon.
The second is a one-shot sequel to "The Great and Powerful Trixie's Dojo," set some time after Trixie's dojo mishaps. She's reestablished a foothold in Canterlot and has managed to avoid a certain troubling customer — until now, at least. And this time, Luna brought her sister. It's a one-shot, about 5,000 words long (subject to change some after editing), and its working title (also subject to change) is "Crouching Gryffin, Squatting Alicorn."
I'm hoping to finish and post them in the next couple of weeks, barring time issues, unforeseen funny business or laziness on my part.
